Previews: “Product Displacement” @ CHG Circa

This Saturday, May 23rd, CHG Circa in Culver City will be opening a group show entitled Product Displacement. Participants were asked to consider the “interruption” of the media and arts by the insertion of commercial advertising when creating a piece for the show. Much like the invasion of consumerism into our everyday lives, brands and products have invaded these artist’s works. The roster includes Andrew Brandou, Ben Frost, Brandi Milne, Brian Donnelly, Buff Monster, Bumblebeelovesyou, Mikael Brandup, Carlos Ramos, Eric Joyner, Greg Gossel, Luke Chueh, Michael Mararian, […]

Showing: Aryz – “PARAL•LEL” (Los Angeles Popup)

Last month, PARAL•LEL opened in Los Angeles (viewings are by appointment only through May 31st), a pop up showing from prolific street artist Aryz. The new body of work touches on some of the surreal scenes seen in the Barcelona-based artist’s public murals including skeletal forms, repeating motifs / patterns, and still life inspired imagery. Along with these paintings rendered in his distinct ghostly aesthetic and color palette, there was also a truck custom covered in his work seen outside. Discuss Aryz here.

Upcoming: Greg “Craola” Simkins – “Where Am I” @ KP Projects // MKG

This Saturday night, May 23rd, Greg “Craola” Simkins (featured) will be opening another solo show at KP Projects // MKG in Los Angeles. Entitled Where Am I, the name of the show is a nod to his graffiti roots as part of the WAI crew as well as a reaction to experiencing the fantastical worlds that the Los Angeles based artist is so adept at creating. He further states – “There is a point during our lifetime when we lose our childhood excitement and curiosities, and become infected with […]

This Saturday night (May 2nd), the Upper East Side NY gallery run by Adam Lindemann will be opening a location on the West Coast called Venus Over Los Angeles. The debut show will feature three new series of work from the New York-based Dan Colen: Canopics – sculptures cast from the negative space formed by roadside guardrails mangled by car accidents, Rainbow Paintings – inspired by Disney’s Fantasia, decontextualized backdrops minus the animated characters, and Psychics (Interstellar Medium) – a sound piece of recorded psychic readings with the original […]

Openings: Patrick Martinez – “FORBIDDEN FRUIT” @ New Image Art

Last week at New Image Art in Los Angeles, the versatile Patrick Martinez unveiled new mixed media works with a show entitled FORBIDDEN FRUIT. The fresh work combines his signature neon light technique with sculpture & painting, taking inspiration from things like hip hop and minority culture. Examples include guns mingling and appearing with common place items like fruits highlighted by neon lights, or imagery products are placed on the wall like strange hybrids – all giving insight into Martinez’s artistic vision. Opening: Revok – “Los Angeles” @ Library Street Collective (LA)

Last week, fans of Revok witnessed the opening of his first solo show in LA at a popup space hosted by the Library Street Collective. Hand cutting wood pieces and putting together complex geometric shapes, the composition is then painted over in patterns that draw their influences from […]

The exhibition from the Barcelona-based muralist will feature the most extensive collection of indoor works to date.
