Showing: “View Point Geon” @ Narwhal Contemporary

Currently showing at Narwhal Contemporary in Toronto is a three person show entitled View Point Geon featuring the work of Matthew Feyld, Alvaro Ilizarbe, Paul Wackers. For this exhibition, the Canada-based Feyld continues to explore the continued abstraction of his figurative work while Ilizarbe brings Haring-esque patterned wall sculptures from Peru. Finally, Wackers who works in New York, put his special type of still life painting on display along with an interesting move into ceramic works (see above). These new sculptural representations of his artistic […]

Openings: “Space//Squared” @ White Walls Gallery

Last month, White Walls Gallery in San Francisco opened a group exhibition entitled Space//Squared. Curated by Sven Davis, the showing was a followup to an event last year in Portland (covered). This time around, participating artists were again asked to contribute artwork in a 10 x 10″ format.  Along with pieces from over 100 artists (list seen below), Adam Friedman and Robert Minervini also created a site-specific installation featuring a series of paintings interspersed throughout mural elements. Roster: 2501, Adam Friedman, Adam Weir, Akiko Masker, Alex Lukas, Alicia Dubnyckyj, […]

Releases: Matthew Feyld Print Editions @ Little Paper Planes

San Francisco-based Little Paper Planes has just released a series of three prints by Canadian artist Matthew Feyld. Coming in at a price of just $35 each and dimensions of 8.5″ x 11″, these prints look like great value in their signed and numbered editions of 50. LPP also just posted an interview with Feyld along with some pictures from his studio (seen above), so check that out too to find out a little more about his creative process. Discuss Matthew Feyld here.

Openings: “Wider than a postcard” & olive47 – “bonita bonita” @ Breeze Block Gallery

Breeze Block Gallery opened their huge group show Wider than a postcard (previewed) alongside the first solo show in their new gallery 2 space – olive47’s bonita bonita (featured) a couple of weeks back to a packed Portland crowd. Over 400 individual works went into the postcard show with 200 artists providing postcard sized works. The work was hung on the walls in grids of 24 cards, each echoing the aspect ratio of the individual works themselves as each work was 6×4 inches. The variance of work encompassed photography […]

Previews: “Wider than a postcard” @ Breeze Block Gallery

On the back of his Space//Form group exhibition last year (covered), Arrested Motion’s Sven Davis is working with Breeze Block Gallery in Portland again on another huge group event entitled Wider than a postcard. With over 200 artists and 400 individual works, this exhibition looks to be both bigger than the previous event and also smaller at the same time as all of the artworks are postcard sized at 6×4 inches. Each artist is either making work on a found / owned postcard and adapting / adding […]

Matthew Feyld – ‘Untitled (197 Drawings)’ @ Nowhere Montreal

Matthew Feyld’s new book entitled Untitled (197 Drawings) has just been released by Blackdot Publishing, and to accompany the edition, Nowhere Gallery in Montreal hosted an exhibition under the same untitled title featuring many of the works presented within the book. Matthew’s drawings and paintings have been a point of fascination for us at AM for a while now, and we’ve enjoyed watching the evolution of Feyld’s work. Gone are the figurative and mixed media creations we first associated him with five or so years ago. His draftsman-like qualities have been exchanged […]

Preview: “It Is As It Was” @ Good Press Gallery (Glasgow)

Good Press Gallery has been in existence for just a few short months now, and AM got to check out their inaugural group exhibition The Family Show back in October whilst visiting Glasgow. With a keen curatorial eye and a healthy DIY spirit, Good Press’ upcoming group exhibition It Is As It Was features five young artists whose work we enjoy. Matthew Feyld, R.M. Phoenix, Ryan Stewart Nault, Morgan Blair and Amy Hancock-Martin make up this international showcase, opening 12th January. In particular, we’re pretty taken with […]

Previews: ‘Family Shirt’ @ Krets, Malmö. Curated by Matthew Feyld

Matthew Feyld seems to be a regular on flights between Canada and Sweden of late. After two solo exhibitions and a residency at Krets in Malmö, and a solo and residency at Neon in Brösarp last year, Feyld is taking on the curation of the forthcoming group exhibition at Krets – Family Shirt. The exhibition opens on April 9th, and is to feature a selection of Canadian artists across the mediums of painting, drawing, sculpture and sound. Feyld’s work is featured alongside The Royal Art […]

Showing: Matthew Feyld “Untitled 1 & 2” at Krets and Neon, Sweden

AM recently brought you a glimpse of Matthew Feyld’s installation coming together at his two concurrent solo shows in Sweden at Krets and Neon.  It was following his period of residency during August and the beginning of this month at the galleries.  Both shows have since opened, and as we suggested may happen, Feyld was let loose to assemble a large freestanding installation at Neon. Consisting of large scale wooden cut outs, the installation work is some of the largest the Saskatoon, Canada-based artist has […]

Installation / Preview: Matthew Feyld – “Untitled 1 & 2” @ Krets – Malmö & Neon – Brösarp, Sweden

We have been long time admirers of Matthew Feyld’s work here of AM, and we’ve watched him hone his skills over the last few years with numerous group and solo showings. The quality and precision of the Canadian artist is second to none and the fine detail of his line work has to be seen in person to be truly appreciated. Lately, Feyld’s work has been moving away from the largely figurative body of work seen in the past and more towards abstraction whilst still maintaining […]
