Openings: Rosson Crow – “BALLYHOO HULLABALOO HABOOB” @ Honor Fraser

Over the weekend, the Honor Fraser Gallery hosted the opening for BALLYHOO HULLABALOO HABOOB, Rosson Crow’s (featured) second solo at the Los Angeles showspace. The new body of work marks a departure from her signature imagery of decadent interiors from the past rendered with colorful urban references (last seen in 2010 here and here), and sees the LA-based painter move her narrative towards a looser and more abstract look at scenes of American growth and decline, all with a more muted palette. Openings: Rosson Crow – “Myth of the American Motorcycle” @ CAC

Rosson Crow (featured) recently opened her exhibition at the Contemporary Arts Center, Cincinnati (CAC) to a excited Ohio crowd. The show entitled “Myth of the American Motorcycle” (previewed) centered around the classic highway icon and it’s effect on American culture. Rosson underwent an intense study of the biker lifestyle the year prior in anticipation for this show. It seems that it paid off as this series is a great match for “RoCrow’s” nostalgic abstraction on familiar settings that “never-was”. Check out this great show after [...]

Preview: Rosson Crow – “Myth of the American Motorcycle” @ Contemporary Art Center (Cincinnati)

Opening next month, “Myth of the American Motorcycle” at the Contemporary Arts Center, Cincinnati (previously the site of the Shepard Fairey retrospective) will feature the vibrant paintings of Rosson Crow (featured). The exhibition, fueled by Rosson’s love for motorcycle lore, combines her expansive-retro style with the thematic choice of an American icon – a perfect match. The opening is on November 5th at 8 pm (open to the public), with an artist’s talk scheduled for the next day, November 6th at 2 pm. The exhibition [...]

Kathy Grayson to Carry the Deitch Projects Torch

For those who have been living under an art world rock for the past few months, let us give you a quick recap of the biggest news to come out of NYC in a while. Jeffrey Deitch was selected to become the new director of Los Angeles’s MOCA. Due to potential conflicts, he will not be able to operate his gallery, Deitch Projects, while at his new position, and will be forced to close shop. Because Deitch Projects – one of the most innovative, fresh, [...]

Openings: Rosson Crow – “Bowery Boys” @ Deitch Projects

On Saturday night, Deitch Projects hosted the opening for the ever talented contemporary artist: Rosson Crow. The beautifully rendered works featured periods from the 1800′s to the current landscape depicting the gritty urban facades of the “Big Apple”. As AM previewed last week through a detailed studio visit, her bigger-than-life style had us excited to see the rest of the show. Fully utilizing the grand space that Deitch Projects is renowned [...]

Studio Visits / Preview: Rosson Crow – “Bowery Boys” @ Deitch Projects

This past weekend AM had a chance to stop by Rosson Crow’s Brooklyn studio where she graciously gave us a sneak preview of her upcoming Deitch Projects show “Bowery Boys” opening on March 4th. As the name implies, Rosson uses her loose and dreamy abstract style to reinterpret the landscape & culture of downtown Manhattan. Working within the storied hall/traditions of Deitch Projects, Rosson dares to nostalgically re-imagine the “bad boy” underground streets artists of yesteryear and their impact on the urban culture of NYC. Some of [...]

Teaser: Rosson Crow – “Bowery Boys” @ Deitch Projects

For one of Deitch Projects last hurrahs, the gallery will host “Bowery Boys,” an exhibition of new paintings by Rosson Crow. For the show, which opens March 4, Crow has used her adopted town of NYC as the theme for her bright and energetic large-scale canvases. See an image of the lovely Ms. Crow from the NYC Stages show (covered) and read the Deitch’s press release for “Bowery Boys,” after the jump.

Showing: Rosson Crow – “Paris, Texas” @ Galerie Nathalie Obadia

You may remember seeing Rosson Crow’s luminous painting for the “Stages” exhibition that we have been covering.  She recently opened up her second solo show in Paris at the Galerie Nathalie Obadia entitled “Paris, Texas.” Utilizing vibrant colors, blurs, and drips, Rosson’s recent work features opulent interiors brought back from recent history infused with playful elements like the Koons balloon sculpture (seen above). Lance Armstrong and Nike Sportswear’s “Stages” exhibition (previewed here and here) opened up with an amazing roster of artists.
