Basel Week Miami ’14 / Recap: Library Street Collective Group Show

While in town for Basel Week Miami, one of the exhibitions we enjoyed the most was put on by the Library Street Collective near Wynwood Walls. With a diverse list of artists involved including Revok, Shepard Fairey, Pose, Kelsey Brookes, Tristan Eaton, Smash137, Vhils, Hush, Sam Friedman, Maya Hayuk, Roids, Mad C, AJ Fosik, Cleon Peterson, Dave Kinsey, Hacer (seen above), Hense, Faith47, How & Nosm, and Swoon, fans had a chance to see a wide range of works. It looks like many of the artists contributed some prime pieces that […]

Basel Week Miami ’14 / Streets: Shepard Fairey x Cleon Peterson

Every year during Basel Week Miami, AM always spends some time in the Wynwood district checking out the activity as street and graffiti artists put in the time to beautify the area. For 2014, the predominant facilitators in the area, Wynwood Walls, decided to focus on The Art of Collaboration. One of the standouts was this joint effort painting four sides of a building by Los Angeles-based artists and coworkers Shepard Fairey (featured) and Cleon Peterson. Take a look at how their imagery melded perfectly together in […]

Streets: Shepard Fairey – Nelson Mandela @ South Africa

Shepard Fairey (featured) took his talents on a global tour this year with stops in Los Angeles, Chicago, Philly, New York, Berlin, Tokyo and South Africa, to name a few. One of his more notable stops was in South Africa, which has long been a focal point of political dissent. Given this situation, it’s fitting that Mr. Fairey paid his first-ever visit to Johannesburg to build an eight story mural of their recently passed icon Nelson Mandela. Mandela was a key anti-apartheid revolutionary, politician, and philanthropist who served […]

Streets: Shepard Fairey (Berlin)

Continuing their art related efforts, Urban Nation recently invited Shepard Fairey’s (featured) in for their One Wall Project. Intermixing the text “Make Art Not War,” “Eyes Open Mind Open,” and “Rise Above,” with his familiar imagery, the Los Angeles-based street artist has left a visible mark in the hip Berlin district for the fans of Obey. The new mural is located right at the entrance to the U-Bahn station Hallesches Tor, Mehringplatz, at the beginning of Friedrichstraße. Shep states – “I was in Berlin for a […]

Rewind: Sept 8 – Sept 21

There seems to be an unlimited supply of art-related videos coming out all the time. Here is another edition our Rewind feature where we curate a selection of videos for your viewing pleasure. First up is some footage of Spanish muralist Aryz, who has been very active lately participating in most European street art festivals with big walls. Finerats Magazine recently featured him on their cover and also just released a great 11 min interview giving us a great, previously unseen look inside his studio, but also, […]

Openings: Shepard Fairey x Hennessy – VS Cognac Bottle Launch (NYC)

Last week, we shared some photos with our readers of Shepard Fairey’s (featured) new mural in NYC for the L.I.S.A. Project. During his time in New York, he also hosted the official NYC launch of his signature design for this year’s Hennessy V.S Limited Edition artist bottle at ARENA. While there, Fairey was happy to share a drink with the Big Apple and drop some hotness as he spun a set along with DJ Mick. Take a look at more photos from the event below… Discuss Shepard […]

Streets: Shepard Fairey (New York)

Last week, Shepard Fairey (featured) visited New York City to show a little love for his fans in the Big Apple. Mr. Obey and his posse worked on a massive six story mural on Bowery just off of Broome as he took advantage of the Manhattan skyline with the help of the L.I.S.A. project. Entitled We Own The Future, this fresh creation took over three days to finish and we stopped by to document the process from beginning to end. Discuss Shepard Fairey here. Streets: World Roundup (Aug 4 – Aug 24)

With the return of our Streets: World Roundup feature, we first want to bring your attention to a new mural from Blu in Sardinia, Italy. The wall he painted once again showed his skills with large-scale imagery while working around architectural features of his surface. Also, the upside down toy soldiers are consistent with the Italian street artist’s penchant for politically charged public works. Other worthy walls come from Ernest Zacharevic – US, Satone – Germany, Seth – Puerto Rico, Bordalo II – Portugal (source), […]

BIBO Restaurant (Hong Kong)

The staff here at AM are always on the lookout for restaurants that can pleasure our tastebuds as well as allows us to appreciate art at the same time. Like other establishments we have featured in the past, BIBO on Hollywood Road in Hong Kong will be on our shortlist of places to visit because of their design choices. Put together as a collaboration between BIBO & Substance, this beautiful space features work by the likes of KAWS, JR, Zevs, Invader, Shepard Fairey, D*Face, and more. With this stunning result, the French […]
