As we previewed a few days back, PULSE is getting ready for its big reveal in Los Angeles next weekend, running from September 30 to October 3. Jen Stark will be present at the inaugural Southern California iteration of the increasingly exciting contemporary art fair. Exhibiting with Toronto-based Shows & Tell Gallery, Stark will unveil a strong selection of her signature mixed-media works, primarily brand new pieces with an old one or two in the mix. As was the case with her solo Rainbow Rainbow […]

Openings: ‘Good Folks’ @ Show & Tell Gallery

Show & Tell Gallery in Toronto continue to impress us with a superb roster of artists. Their latest, Good Folks, opened last week and featured Swoon (interviewed), Monica Canilao, Jeremiah Maddock, Derek Mehaffey (aka Other), Labrona and Troy Dugas. Good Folks looks another well curated show, and brings together a distinguished balance of artists from the fringes of the folk art, street art and protest art movements. This show celebrates the first two years of the gallery’s existence, so we wish them well and much […]

Openings: “Atrophic Existence” @ Show & Tell

A couple Saturdays ago, Show & Tell Gallery played host to a cohesive group show from Kevin Cyr (interviewed), Mike Shankman, Jeff Gillette, Joshua Barndt, and Alex Lukas entitled Atrophic Existence. Along with some pretty nice pieces from a group of painters whose work focuses on urban decay and disintegration, Gillette also brought some beautiful sculptural renderings of his shantytown structures and you could not miss the massive central installation from Barndt entitled The World is a Mountain and Everything Gets Buried. More opening pics […]

Openings: Brian Donnelly – “Obedience & Savagery” @ Show & Tell Gallery

It’s always exciting for us to see emerging artists we enjoy pushing the boat out and really delivering solid showings of work. AM recently brought you a glimpse of what Toronto based artist Brian Donnelly was bringing to his solo exhibition “Obedience and Savagery”, which opened last week at Show & Tell Gallery, and after seeing these preview images we had high hopes for the rest of the work. Donnelly’s animal/human mash-ups were shown alongside Winnie Truong’s delicate coloured pencil work in the form of […]

Studio Visits / Preview: Brian Donnelly – “Obedience & Savagery” @ Show & Tell Gallery

Show & Tell Gallery in Toronto continues its program of exhibitions exciting to us at AM with local boy Brian Donnelly’s second solo exhibit with the gallery opening on November 5th, 2010. “Obedience & Savagery” picks up where 2009’s “Blasphemies, Monstrosities and Other Perversions” left off, with Brian’s unique grafting of animal appendages onto human forms forming the basis of the work. Brian’s beautifully rendered figurative works hang in a background environment of negative space, which establishes an indication of the duality that the work […]

Preview: Anthony Lister – “The Beauty of Failure” @ Show & Tell Gallery

Anthony Lister’s (interviewed) adds to his ever growing list of countries exhibited in this week with the event of his solo show “The Beauty of Failure” to be held at Show & Tell Gallery in Toronto. His first time exhibiting in Canada, Lister brings a body of work that deals with the topics of reward and punishment in his own twisted pop culture style. Catch the opening on Friday, July 9th if you can, although Mr. Lister will not be in town due to a […]

Preview: Greg Lamarche – “Cut To The Chase” @ Show and Tell Gallery

Preview: Ryan Dineen & Jacques Oule – “Cityscrapes” @ Show & Tell Gallery

Toronto’s Show & Tell Gallery continues to bring a succession of new and interesting artists to our attention and this time, it is the turn of Toronto homeboy Ryan Dineen. For Dineen, working with oil on canvas seems to be as comfortable as working outdoors on his impressive murals and graff pieces. Dineen portrays the landscape of the city with a level of edginess that we love – sombre, weathered, faded, decayed – evoking thoughts of past glories enjoyed within the setting. Fellow Toronto based […]
