NuArt ’15 / Streets: First Look

AM has arrived in Stavanger on Norway’s western coast to experience firsthand the city’s annual celebration of street art that is the NuArt Festival. Openings: Dan Quintana – “Diffused” @ Hashimoto Contemporary

Over the weekend, Hashimoto Contemporary in San Francisco hosted the opening of Dan Quintana’s lastest solo show. Entitled Diffused, the exhibition featured a dozen new oil paintings and several charcoal drawings on paper from the Los-Angeles based artist centered mainly around his ghostly portraiture, beautiful female characters surrounded by an aura of abstract elements. Openings: Cleon Peterson – “Poison” @ Library Street Collective

Over the weekend, the Library Street Collective hosted the opening for a new show from Cleon Peterson in Detroit. Poison features new paintings featuring nightmarish scenes of violence and gore, nothing new to fans of the former assistant to Shepard Fairey. What is new though are the sculptural editions that Peterson has included in the new body of work, a natural next step to bringing his provocative imagery to life. Photo credit: Sal Rodriguez. This weekend marked the end of the unique Vision Art Festival that was held through the week in Crans-Montana resort in Switzerland. On 1the 4th of August, Lazarides Rathbone gallery officially opened a major solo exhibition by Lucas Price aka Cyclops entitled Dumb Poetry. Last week, AM had the opportunity to visit Heath Ceramics in San Francisco where Brendan Monroe (interviewed) was hard at work in the upstairs workshop on an upcoming show. Opening September 25th in the ceramics studio and store’s Bay Area Boiler Room, Morphology will reveal months of work the Oakland-based artist has put in testing his limits with larger pieces, carefully choosing glazes, and bringing to life (in three dimensions) concepts and elements of his visual language.
