Setup: Mark Jenkins – “Meaning is Overrated” & Aakash Nihalani – “On & Off (Often On)” @ Carmichael Gallery

It’s always interesting to see how street artists adapt their art to fit into a gallery setting, especially when they are so non-conventional (even for street art) like Mark Jenkins and Aakash Nihalani. The duo will bring their “urban interventions” indoors tomorrow night at the Carmichael Gallery – Jenkins with “Meaning is Overrated” and Nihalani with “On & Off (Often On).” Take a look at more pics of the artists setting up after the jump…

Glenn Barr’s show at The 4th Wall Gallery (previewed) opened last weekend in Dallas with a fantastic new body of work. Sprinkled among paintings of his signature vixens were serpent women, bird-girls and other hybrid creatures. To round out the show, he also had drawings, prints, and his “Happiness” bronze on display. Also exhibiting along with Barr were THH70 & Joey Seeman. We weren’t all too familiar with Jeremy Geddes’ work when we planned our coverage of the HK Venture show where Ashley Wood was the main draw for us. Seeing Geddes’ amazing visuals was definitely an eye-opener for us, so much so that we dedicated another article focusing in on his “cosmonaut” series of paintings. Some very interesting developments over in Park City, Utah where the Sundance Film Festival is about to get underway. Apparently, about four new alleged Banksy stencils have popped up, with the one seen above being the best one so far. Adding to the intrigue are the rumors that the “Spotlight Surprise” documentary will actually be about Banksy and entitled “Exit Through The Gift Shop,” the title of a famous piece from his recent Bristol Museum show. Brooklyn-based artist Brian Alfred opened his latest show “It’s Already the End of the World” last Friday at New York’s Haunch of Venison. In this new exhibition of painting, collage and animated video, Alfred puts a flat, pop veneer on the cult of personality and the globalized modern world. Releases: Bast – “The Wig” Print

Papermonster is dropping a new Bast print today around noon (eastern time we assume) entitled “The Wig.” No details as the edition size or price yet, but there should be several variations of this release. AM, along with almost everyone else in NYC, came out for the opening of Todd James’ “Make My Burden Lighter” at Midtown gallery Gering & López.
