Streets: Interesni Kazki in Barcelona

AM has been keeping a close eye on AEC and Waone, who together form the Ukranian duo Interesni Kazki (Interesting Fairy Tales). Earlier this year, the two Kiev-based artists had a solo show at Galerie All Over in Lyon, France. Last month, original drawings by them were displayed at Pictures On Walls in a group show coinciding with the launch (featured) of Tristan Manco‘s new book, Street Sketchbook: Journeys. Another exhibition of their colourful fantasy-world creations will be held next spring in Milan. Interesni Kazki […]

Releases / Giveaway: Paul Insect – ‘Unclear Residents’ Folio @ Pictures on Walls

AM stopped by Paul Insect’s folio release event at Pictures on Walls last week to take a look at the ‘Unclear Residents‘ set. The evening presented a series of Paul’s screen-printed targets pasted about the walls, along with the selection of prints and a huge bank of page-spreads from the two limited zines available in the hand-made folio. At the time of writing, the edition of 80 sets seems to be close to sold out, with just 3 sets remaining. The scrapbook ‘Beat the Devils‘ and the […]

Openings: Tiffany Bozic – “Confiding to Strangers” @ Joshua Liner Gallery

Last week, Tiffany Bozic took a fresh batch of works (previewed) to the Joshua Liner Gallery for her exhibition “Confiding to Strangers”. This latest series was breathtaking to say the least as pieces consisting of paper and wood impressed the New York crowd that beelined their way to the show. Apparent in the artwork was Tiffany’s vision and talent that seems to mix Discovery Channel fascination with the imagination of an artist with a unique vision. Check out the force of nature after the jump.

Teaser: Basel Week Miami ’10 – “It Ain’t Fair” @ OHWOW

As Art Basel Miami Beach continues to strengthen it’s foothold as one of the premiere global contemporary art fairs, South Beach native OHWOW will yet again be an important player in the week’s festivities with their third installment of the now famous It Ain’t Fair. With many of the local gallery’s own roster of artists, along with many returning cross-genre art superstars from last years ambitious showing (covered), the annual well-endowed group exhibition will be required viewing for all traveling down to The Sunshine State […]

Preview: Mantis “Altered State” solo exhibition

Self organised solo exhibitions seem to be a popular way of showcasing your art here in the UK over recent times, and the latest AM has got wind of is “Altered State” by Mantis this Thursday night. This has the makings of something a little different though, as Mantis is staging his exhibition in the disused Lord Napier pub in Hackey Wick over the course of one weekend. New works on show will include paintings, sculpture and small scale prints. The concept behind the prints […]

Angel Art Auction 2010 @ Creative Artists Agency

KAWS (piece pictured above), Jack Pierson, Taryn Simon, Mark Bradford, and Alexandra Grant are some of the artists who graciously donated (some in association with their respective galleries) artwork to the Angel Art Auction 2010, taking place Nov 18. If you’ve ever attempted to purchase a KAWS original, you know how hard it is to just get the opportunity to buy one. Now, you just need to be the highest bidder and it’s yours!  Plus, you will be contributing money to a worthy cause. The […]

Showing: Abstract Expressionist New York @ MoMA

Although many art shows are described as “must-see,” perhaps none in recent memory is more deserving of that description than the one now showing at New York’s Museum of Modern Art. “Abstract Expressionist New York” is an awe-inspiring exhibition drawn entirely from the core of MoMA’s collection that highlights the institution’s unparalleled holdings of mid-20th century American art. The show consists of many of the world’s most important works from the post-World War 2 abstract expressionism movement in which New York artists such as Jackson […]

Openings: Melissa Forman – “Keepers of Creation” @ Corey Helford Gallery

Last Saturday night, AM stopped by the Corey Helford to attend the opening of “Keepers of Creation”, the new body of work from Ohio-based Melissa Forman. Her paintings impressed with their detail, use of light, and composition, filling the lower level of the space of the gallery with her female portraiture set in and interacting with the natural world. More photos after the jump…

Openings: Best Ever – ‘Some Anatomies of Melancholy’ @ Blackall Studios

We’d been anticipating Best|Ever’s debut ‘official’ solo show since first coming across some early examples of their work a couple of years back, and our recent interview with the duo of Neil ‘Best’ Edward and Hadley ‘Ever’ Newman only served to build our desire further to experience their paintings as a body of work within a gallery setting. AM went along to the opening night of ‘Some Anatomies of Melancholy’ last week, and B|E delivered a solid exhibition to a packed house. The main gallery […]

Basel Week Miami ’10: “The Sticker Wall” @ Wynwood Walls

We recently showed you images of Shepard Fairey down in Miami installing his mural inside this year’s Wynwood Walls cafe (covered). Well, more images have just surfaced from the Wynwood Walls project, courtesy of legendary street photographer Martha Cooper. Apparently, right next to Shepard’s wall will be one organized by “Stickers: Stuck-Up Piece of Crap” authors DB Burkeman and Monica LoCascio. The “Sticker Wall,” which officially launches during Art Basel Miami 2010, will be a place where artists and the general public can celebrate sticker […]
