For this week’s Art Focus, we turn our attention to New York-based painter Brad Kunkle. We were first introduced to his skills during the opening of the Martin Wittfooth curated Dark Water show (covered) in Los Angeles. What is striking about his work is his incorporation of silver and gold leaf into his oil paintings, which imbues them with an added depth and allows for a play with light and angles. He feels that the relationship between the leaf, figures, and environments in his work is similar to the relationship of the spiritual and material worlds.
