Art Focus: Shi Jindian

For this week’s Art Focus, we point you to the wire sculptures of Chinese artist Shi Jindian. Bringing to mind the intricate and ethereal mesh work from Do Ho Suh, Shi instead creates his pieces by wrapping steel wires around object and then destroying or extracting the inner object leaving only a metal shadow. Streets: RVA Street Art Festival (Part II)

Last week, Jeff Soto (interviewed) sent over some in-progress photos from the RVA Street Art Festival in Richmond, Virginia where artists like Dalek, Mark Jenkins, Pose, Richard Colman, and others were painting murals along the James River Power Plant Building and Floodwall. Jeff has now followed up those pics with some of of the completed walls including areas where artist’s work leaked into each other’s field leading to some sweet collaborative work. Openings: “Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me” @ Copro Gallery

A couple weeks ago, the 20th anniversary of cult hit television show Twin Peaks was celebrated with a group exhibition at the Copro Gallery entitled Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me. Preview: Jasper Wong – “A Corny Concerto” @ No Vacancy

Tomorrow night (April 28th) in Melbourne, the No Vacancy Gallery (The Atrium, Federation Square location) will be hosting a solo show from Jasper Wong (interviewed). The multi-talented painter, illustrator, and curator will be presenting a selection of work utilizing his signature mix of humor and asian-influenced pop culture entitled A Corny Concerto. Streets: Mark Jenkins & Escif – Katowice Street Art Festival (Poland)

Last week, we shared some photos of Olek as she returned to her hometown for the Katowice Street Art Festival where she yarnbombed excavators. Opening: Blek Le Rat @ Opera Gallery (London)

Xavier Prou aka Blek Le Rat opens a new exhibition of work to the public at the Opera Gallery in London on Friday 27th April 2012. Despite exhibiting all over the world, this will be the French artist’s first London exhibition since 2008. Showing: “Vinyl Revisionists” @ Warner Brothers

The art of the album cover has a longstanding cultural and historic impact, both on contemporary society and new contemporary art. From the psychedelic album covers of the sixties to the gritty urban photographic hip hop album covers of the 90s, few mediums have been as unheralded yet impactful as these visual interpretations of the defining sounds of each generation. Warner Brothers Records in Burbank has recently opened a group show inviting artists to reinterpret their favorite albums and covers from the label’s expansive catalog. […]

Streets: ROA (London)

  Last weekend, ROA painted a huge hedgehog that you can see peeking around the corner on Chance Street in Shoreditch. This public art gift to London was in association with the Belgium-based street artist’s dual showing at StolenSpace (covered) and their popup location (covered) collectively entitled Hypnagogia.
