Another highlight of AM’s Portland trip for the Space//Form exhibition at Breeze Block Gallery was a chance to meet up with long time online friend Blaine Fontana and take a look around his studio. Blaine’s studio is located in a wonderful 1911 brick built 4 storey former seed warehouse in Portland. The building is now occupied solely as artist studios and retains a plenitude of its original features in addition to its high ceilings. The interior of Blaine’s headquarters has been meticulously crafted in his own style, employing an abundance of wood throughout the fit and finish. If you are familiar with Blaine’s work, walking into his studio feels like walking into a Fontana installation. The studio houses both a painting studio and also the creative design agency Fontana Studios operated by both Blaine and his wife Eugenie (plus canine helpers Zeus and Athena).
Blaine has a 2 person exhibition with fellow PDX based artist Amy Ruppel entitled Mild Climate opening on Saturday 17th November at Washington DC’s Art Whino Gallery as he was gearing up for the exhibition when we visited. Check out more pics from the studio below.
