Previews: Alexis Diaz & Jaz – “Linea” @ Rex Romae

Rex Romae, a brand new urban contemporary art gallery project in London, is kicking off with an exclusive, week long pop-up show. Linea will be a joint exhibition featuring new works by Alexis Diaz and Franco Fassoli (aka Jaz). Jaz is an Argentinian artist whose street work can be found all over the world. Consisting of figurative imagery created with different mediums such as tar, petrol, or lime, the rough feeling murals are inspired by elements of his home country’s culture. For this new body of work, Jaz combines […]

POW! WOW! ’14 / Streets: Tristan Eaton

Tristan Eaton’s Escape The Night mural for POW! WOW! Hawaii was one of the biggest ones at this year’s edition of the festival. Getting a flat, clear, three story high and wide wall was perfect for the Los Angeles-based artist to show his skills and signature style. Creating another collage like mural, completely executed with spray paint, didn’t only show Eaton’s talent for visual art, but also his incredible skills and control of spray paint as medium. The entire image was made up of various images that included clean, corporate […]

Studio Visits: Laser 3.14

The work of Amsterdam’s street art man of mystery, Laser 3.14 is slowly becoming one of the recognizable elements of the Dutch capital. Along with canals, bikes, red lights and coffeeshops, his statements sprayed all over the city are something a lot of people remember from their trips. Recently, we had a chance to visit Laser 3.14 at his studio in the Jordaan area, see and hear about what he is working on, and talk about how this phenomena started. By many accounts, Laser 3.14 […]

Upcoming: Andrew Hem – “Dream But Don’t Sleep” @ Merry Karnowsky Gallery

After seeing the sweet wave breakdancer that Andrew Hem (interviewed) painted for a show (covered) during POW! WOW! Hawaii, we are really looking forward to his exhibition opening next month at Merry Karnowsky Gallery. Entitled Dream But Don’t Sleep, the exhibition will feature the Los Angeles based artist’s dream-like paintings, always inspired by his Asian heritage as well as his travels and personal experiences. Make sure you RSVP with the gallery if you would like to attend the opening on March 8th. Discuss Andrew Hem here.

Showing: KAWS – “Play Your Part” @ Galeria Javier Lopez

Four years since his solo with the same gallery (covered), KAWS is back in Madrid with a new show entitled Play Your Part at Galeria Javier Lopez. With seven large works (4 large tondos and 3 custom shaped canvas pieces), the NYC-based artist introduced his newest paintings to the old continent collectors and art fans. The fresh pieces combine elements from the different phases in his artistic development, such as abstract segments and his version of cartoon characters, which is the type of work he’s been […]

POW! WOW! ’14 / Streets: Reka

One of the pieces we enjoyed for this year’s POW! WOW! Hawaii festival by many participants and visitors, was the one created by Reka. The Melbourne-born and Berlin-based artist tackled the architectural challenges with great ease and speed, proving his long experience and enviable skills working with the spray paint medium, and was among the first ones to finish his work. Using more tropical colors in order to match the surrounding, and island friendly imagery such as flowers, tree roots, tribal faces, with lots of signature clean […]

Showing: Yayoi Kusama – “A Dream I Dreamed” @ MoCA (Shanghai)

At the end of last year, we had a chance to see for ourselves the genius of Yayoi Kusama while she was showing in New York (here & here). At about the same time, the Japanese artist also opened a show at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Shanghai entitled A Dream I Dreamed featuring a diverse selection of large-scale installations, sculptures, and paintings. Head over for a look yourself if you are in the area as it will be running until the end of March. Photo […]
