Jonathan LeVine Gallery recently closed a successful solo show by Esao Andrews titled Epilogues. Being his second show with the gallery, the paintings continue and revisit the imagery from his previous exhibition and form a coherent body of work when taken together. Burnt hot air balloons, fabric patterns, flocks of crows, snakes, are just some of the recurring elements that can be noticed in more than one painting. Acclaimed Cuban-American artist, Jorge Rodriguez Gerada has released a truly historic hand finished etching print (limited to 200) based on his iconic Terrestrial Portrait, Out of Many, One, that took The National Mall by storm this past October. The original work commissioned by The Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery was a land portrait composed of dozens of American men (of many nationalities) constructed on Americas most treasured plot of land. Alëxone Dizac’s Banana Spleen, an impressive solo show at David Bloch Gallery in Marrakech recently opened, turning the gallery space into a small section of his surrealist universe. Incense filled the air as we visited the Takashi Murakami exhibition at Gagosian Gallery. This is the site of the artist’s first major exhibition in New York City since his monumental retrospective held at the Brooklyn Museum (covered) in 2007. Releases: James Jean – “Seasons” Print

On November 18th, next Tuesday, starting at 8:00 AM PST, James Jean (interviewed) will be releasing another timed edition. Entitled Seasons, it will have an image size of 22.25 x 37″ and paper size of 24 x 40″, and will cost $200. Anyone ordering it 24 hours after the start time will get one (never to be released again) with the run determined by demand. Head over here at the appropriate time to add it to your collection. Artist couple Barry McGee and Clare Rojas are currently having a joint show at Alessandra Bonomo gallery in Rome. The exhibition consists of a variety of new works created and installed exclusively for the gallery’s space, including paintings, drawings, photographs and sculptural objects. Portugese artist Vhils recently opened a new solo show at Galerie Magda Danysz in Paris. Entitled Vestiges, the exhibition showcases his various unique techniques in which he engraves portraits and abstract patterns onto cork, metal, wood and paper. Using these techniques, Vhils continues to explore the ideas of destruction and creation within urban environments and the collective memory of city inhabitants. Check out images from the show below. One of the legends of the early street art movement, Above (interviewed), is currently in Detroit, almost at the end of his two months residency with Inner State Gallery.
