On June 18th, The Quin hotel in NYC will be opening a Good Story, a solo exhibition by Amanda Marie. For her first big show in NYC, MANDO is creating a narrative that feels like a mid-twentieth century Little Golden Books children’s story.
Though playful and cheerful at first glance with children characters at play, her works usually have a certain twist to them which adds a nice tension to her pieces. Utilizing stencils as her primary form of mark-making, the American artist has been developing her visual language for over a decade. Using pale, dimmed colors and vintage-feel imagery, her works have a instantly recognizable aesthetic. Often featuring patterns or surreal compositions, her creations are applicable both to small paper as well as large walls. For this exhibition, she prepared a whole new body of original works on paper, acrylic works on unstretched canvas as well as an exclusive screen print edition.
