Currently at Chalk Horse in Sydney, Mark Whalen (featured) has a new body of work entitled Improper Fraction on display. The new ceramic works included in the exhibition sees the artist otherwise known as Kill Pixie continue explore the “universal perfection of mathematics and geometries” which you can see in the structure seen in his composition. This is countered by the disturbing scenes played out by the artist’s characters that is dark and regimented as well as shows the influence of artists like Hieronymous Bosch and M.C. […]

Releases: Mark Ryden – “Apis Ectoplasm” Print

Tomorrow, May 29th, at 8 AM PDT, Porterhouse will be releasing a new print from Mark Ryden entitled Apis Ectoplasm. The print was made in collaboration with the Beyond Brookledge event and comes in an edition size of 100 (only 30 are available tomorrow). Aaron Li-Hill (interviewed) recently completed his piece for the Savage Habbit Murals Project in New Jersey, rendered with his signature sense of motion and kinetic energy. Choosing imagery the referenced the history of Secaucus, the New York-based artist was able to pay homage to revolutionary war patriots while also surrounding them with a flock of Snow Geese, often seen in the area on their yearly migration. Starting on May 30th, the Kade Museum in Amersfoort, Netherlands will be hosting a retrospective of Ryan McGinley entitled simply Photographs 1999-2015. The exhibition will feature 80 works on loan from private collections in the Netherlands, England, France, Germany, Belgium, Norway, Austria and Ireland and include works from every series and period of the New York-based photographer’s career. On June 6th, Casey Weldon (featured) will be opening a new show at Spoke Art in San Francisco entitled Tropefiend. Seen above is Snakehold, a new painting from the upcoming exhibition, is a good example of the Seattle-based artist’s penchant for unique color palettes and surreal imagery. Showing: Daniel Arsham – “Future Relic 3” @ Cannes Film Festival

American artist Daniel Arsham is presenting the third installment of his Future Relics series at the 68th Film Festival in Cannes. The short film features actress Juliette Lewis. In parallel to the screening, an exhibition entitled Future Relic 3 on display at the Club Albane at the Marriott, presenting relic items from the film industry era including film camera, microphones to videotapes all recreated in Arsham’s signature technique. As we reported last week, Shepard Fairey (featured) was well on his way to completing his tallest mural to date standing at 180′ x 60′. Featuring a simple but iconic image and pattern, the massive piece will be Shep’s gift to Detroit along with some smaller murals in the Belt series of permanent pieces for the Library Street Collective, where he has solo currently showing (more on this later). Coming up in October of this year, Martin Wittfooth (interviewed) will be opening a solo show at Jonathan LeVine Gallery in New York. The last showing we attended in NY for the locally-based artist was back in 2011 (covered), so we are anxious to see what he has cooked up for an encore.
