After successful Asian debut with AishoNanzuka Gallery in Hong Kong earlier this year (covered), Javier Calleja recently teamed up with the Asian art institution APPortfolio to transform one of his paintings into 3D sculpture. The result is meticulously crafted figure titled Missing The Blue Sky, that will be released in a limited edition of 200 pieces worldwide.
The Spanish artist is known for his playful yet poignant drawings and paintings that usually portray children with a subtle twist of adult humor. Using everyday objects, symbols or phrases, Calleja’s images are easy to relate to and fall in love with. The main quality of both his drawings as well as pieces on canvas are the softness of colors and lines as well as vibrant accents of certain features like the eyes or hair. During production of this sculpture, Calleja used a variety of materials and technologies in order to transfer these signature elements into a 3D object. The result is highly collectible handmade figurine that comes accompanied with an individually numbered wooden certificate. Measuring 32.5 x 16 x 16 cm and packed in a custom wooden box, Missing The Blue Sky, will be available on September 25 at 10:00pm (EST) via APPortfolio online store.
