Making the move up to Skarstedt Gallery, KAWS, whose work recently breached the $1 million mark at auction, has a show opening in New York on November 8th entitled GONE. Fans of the Brooklyn-based artist will certainly be looking forward to seeing in person the monumental new bronze revealed recently on the cover of the Vanity Fair On Art 2018 supplement along with other sculptures and his abstracted paintings, which are often riffs on iconic cartoonish characters. The striking new piece featuring his instantly recognizable Companion and BFF figures have been fashioned in a pose that seems at first to be referencing Michelangelo’s Pietà, but he explains – “I wasn’t looking at Michaelangelo or that sculpture when creating it. I wanted to make something that really felt like loss.”
