Video: Blu & David Ellis – “COMBO” – a Collaborative Animation for Fame Festival 2009

Well, the wait is finally over. The much anticipated collaborative animation between Blu and David Ellis that we hinted about here and here is finally done. The patterns and colors of Ellis’ work blend really well with Blu’s more muted kinetic work. Props to these two artists for the creative camera work as well the time and effort this obviously required. This will go down as one of the top highlights for this years’ FAME Festival (coverage here) and is highly recommended. Via Unurth. Discuss […]

Teaser: FAME Festival 2009

Studio Cromie just announced their lineup for “FAME Festival 2009,” an outdoor art event held from June through September in which street and contemporary artists from across the globe descend on Italy to create some spectacular murals across the city of Grottaglie. The festival will draw to a close on September 19th with a group show featuring new work from the participating artists, print and book releases, as well as a tour around town to see all the artwork. This year’s lineup includes: Blu, Conor […]

Fame Fest ’12: Vhils, Momo, Cyop & Kaf, Moneyless

After bringing you opening photos from this year’s group show for the Fame Festival as well as most of the notable associated murals, it’s now time to summarize some of the rest of the public art that caught our eye this year.  This includes new pieces from a diverse group of artists from around the world like Vhils (above), Momo, Cyop & Kaf, and Moneyless. Enjoy the photo set below… Photo credit: Henrik Haven. Discuss Fame Festival here.

Fame Fest ’12: Ericailcane (Part II)

After bringing you photos earlier of a wall Ericailcane painted for this year’s Fame Festival, we now have a look at a second mural from the Italian street maestro. Just this past weekend was the opening of the event, so fans who made the trek out to Grottaglie got to enjoy this piece in person. Take a closer look at him in action in the photos below as well as pics from other artists as well (here). Photo credit: Henrik Haven. Discuss Fame Festival here. Discuss Ericailcane here.

Fame Fest ’12: Conor Harrington (Part II)

As outlined in our article at the end of last month, Conor Harrington (interviewed) has been in Grottaglie to kick off this year’s  FAME Festival. Bringing back the 2008 & 2009 alumn was a great choice as the Irish painter’s colonial style rendering fits perfectly in the winding streets of the Italian town. Aside from the first two murals we shared with you, here are several more, including a huge one based on the imagery from his London solo (covered) earlier this year. Discuss Fame Festival […]

Fame Fest ’12: Conor Harrington (Part I)

Just a couple days from announcing the lineup for 2012, the FAME Festival has its first visitor – Conor Harrington (interviewed). The UK-based muralist is back in Grottaglie for another tour of duty painting up the town with his signature colonial style featuring mixture of abstraction and realism. Take a look at these first two walls, but you can expect more from him in the coming days including a large-scale piece. Discuss Fame Festival here. Discuss Conor Harrington here.

Teaser: FAME Festival 2012

Good news for street art fans out there. One of our favorite events (see coverage for 2011, 2010, and 2009), FAME Festival, is happening again this year and the list again looks very interesting. Included currently are Ericailcane, Boris Hoppek, Conor Harrington, 108, Lucy McLauchlan, Moneyless, Nug, Giorgio di Palma, Akay, Brad Downey, Cyop & Kaf, Vhils, Paper Resistance, Dem, JR, and Momo. This will be a five year anniversary celebration so expect surprises like more music to be involved this year in the programming. […]

FAME Festival ’11: Sam3

In our continuing coverage of this year’s FAME Festival, we now bring you the work of Sam3. Last seen in Poland and Madrid with his more traditional, nature-inspired murals, the Spanish street artist tried something completely different in the streets of Grottaglie. In perhaps a deliberate – or not – riff on VOINA’s infamous Dick Captured by KGB street action, the abstracted lines of spray paint assemble together like a jigsaw puzzle when viewed from an upstairs bathroom window, where the sizable piece is realized […]

Fame Festival ’11: Escif

Escif recently made the stop in Grottaglie for some last minute additions as the Fame Festival opening will roll around in the next couple weeks (see other artists who have already have done their part here). In addition to this giant tiger, the Spanish street artist also worked on some walls with his signature characters as well as a text-based piece. More after the jump…

Fame Fest ‘ 11: NeSpoon

As the opening (Sept. 24th) of the Fame Festival draws nearer, the last few artists will be touching down to put their mark on the walls of Grottaglie. The most recent visitor was Polish artist NeSpoon and she stayed for 3 weeks, taking advantage of the unique history of the town and learning some new techniques from a local ceramics master. She spent her time in the streets using a variety of methods to get her message across including stencils, ceramic installs, and lace. The […]
