Fans of Nick Walker (interviewed) can always count on two things – intricate stencil work and the iconic The Morning After (TMA) series where his signature “Vandal” runs amuck “beautifying” some of the most prominent cities around the globe. Basel Week Miami ’13 / Openings: “Most Oddinism” @ The Rotunda

Another interesting exhibition that occured during Art Basel Week was entitled Most Oddinism located at The Rotunda, just a block from a number of fairs such as Miami Projects, Art Miami & Context in Miami’s Downtown district. This group show featured the works by many familiar artists you’ve seen here at AM including Aaron De La Cruz, Christopher Derek Bruno, Ben Eine, Kenji Hirata Anthony Lister, Otto Zitko, Patrick Martinez (seen above), ESPO and Roid. Aside from the major fairs operating during Art Basel Week in Miami, there are countless art shows, launches and parties occurring during this tightly packed period. Basel Week Miami ’13: Untitled Art Fair

Yesterday, we visited one of the satellite fairs for Art Basel Week in Miami – the Untitled Art Fair. In its second year, the event expanded to include 90 galleries and not-for-profit spaces from 19 different countries. Instead of working with a selection committee, the fair uses a curatorial approach trusting the New York-based Omar Lopez-Chahoud to select participants to the invite-only showing. Basel Week Miami ’13 / Studio Visits: Faile & Bast – “Deluxx Fluxx”

AM recently paid a visit to Faile’s Brooklyn hideout to take a closer look at their collaborative project with Bast – a nostalgic arcade-based exhibition entitled Deluxx Fluxx. Set to open tonight in South Beach (1604 Washington Blvd.), with sponsorship by Perrier, this marks version 3.0 for this mind blowing showcase of old school arcade games, foosball, and now they’ve added specially crafted pinball machines to bring back the sensory addictions of the 70s & 80s. Openings: Daniel Arsham x Pharrell Williams @ The Standard East

Just this passed September 11th, New York-based artist Daniel Arsham and music producer Pharrell Williams unveiled their first collaborative endeavor at The Standard East Village Hotel in New York City. Hailing from New York, Julia Chiang immerses the Midwest this fall with her work via Kansas City’s Bill Brady Gallery. Upon entry to the showspace, you are welcomed by several large “burst” paintings (seen in our studio visit) drawing you directly into the voided spaces within them. Everyone’s favorite artist & signage creator Stephen “ESPO” Powers and the rest of the ICY Sign crew converted Joshua Liner Gallery into a replica of his busy workspace. Openings: Aurel Schmidt – “Fruits” @ 200 Stanton

Last weekend, Aurel Schmidt opened a new showing in New York at 200 Stanton Street that will run through the rest of the month. Entitled Fruits, the body of work on display revisits some of the provocative imagery she is known for with a series of hybrids made from plant and human body parts.
