Basel Week Miami ’11: Nick Walker @ Corey Helford (SCOPE)

Delving further into Corey Helford Gallery’s booth at the SCOPE Art Fair, we now focus on some work from Bristol artist Nick Walker (interviewed). Definitely making his presence felt as he showcased a diverse mix of new paintings, he included a new addition to the TMA (The Morning After) series with the city of Miami along with his signature character making a stop at the Eiffel Tower. Thought the “Vandal” would take a holiday break after hitting Hong Kong, but we guessed wrong… More after the jump.

Basel Week Miami ’11: Cooper Cole Gallery @ Scope

During Scope art fair we got a chance to catch up with Toronto’s Cooper Cole Gallery. Hosting a solid array of names familiar to readers of AM, the gallery presented great pieces from artists such as Cleon Peterson, Jesse Harris, Maya Hayuk, Ryan Wallace and Steve Powers. We were particularly taken with the always colorful and imaginative pieces by Jen Stark. Who has always had the viewer in mind when she creates her interactive works of art.

Openings: David Ellis – “True Value” @ Joshua Liner Gallery

AM recently attended the opening night for David Ellis‘ solo at New York’s Joshua Liner Gallery. The latest body of work from the New York based artist is entitled True Value and as previewed, the show did an excellent job of showcasing the multi-faceted talents of the man many have called “an artist’s artist.” We caught fresh paintings alongside his numerous musically themed works which included record albums, boom-box instruments and of course the encore of his kinetic sound sculpture which won the Pulse prize […]

Happy Holidays from Julia Chiang!

New York artist Julia Chiang took a moment to send out a holiday greeting. Instead of using ceramic chains to get her ideas across as she did in her Half Gallery show Security is Mostly a Superstition, she used the simple ambiance of Christmas lights to show the LOVE.

Previews: Futura 2000 – “Expansions” @ Galerie Jerome de Noirmont (Paris)

You may recall that last Spring Futura was preparing to show at Galerie Jerome de Noirmont in Paris. Unfortunately, the show got moved as the artist was busy with several projects such as Carbon and Art In the Streets at the MOCA (covered). Good news is the exhibition is now set to open on January 13th. Retitled Expansion, the Brooklyn -based artist plans to display 15 new works created in his abstract realism style for the people in France to enjoy. We caught an early look at the show […]

CHG took full advantage of the Basel Week traffic to spotlight the coming year for the audiences that stopped by this packed booth. More after the jump.

WK Interact for Wired Magazine

Last week we shared with you some hardcore works that WK Interact put up in Paris in conjunction with the “Occupy Movements” occurring around the globe. Now we can show you the “would have been” cover for this month’s Wired Magazine. Unfortunately, WK informed us that Wired change their minds on the cover, but the good news is that this artwork and more by the NY-based artist are still displayed inside a “Riot” spread in the magazine. So go out to your newsstand and cop a […]

Terry Richardson – “Mom & Dad” @ Half Gallery

We recently caught a show by renowned photographer Terry Richardson in New York’s Half Gallery. Mom & Dad featured an excerpt of select photos from his latest monograph from Morel Books (available here). As the title indicates, Richardson included photos of his late father Bob Richardson, a well-known fashion photographer and mother Annie. There were two installations to accompany the photos. First was a collection of printed photos that lined the floor of the gallery and a second was a series of archived answering machine […]

Basel Week Miami ’11: Jonathan LeVine @ Scope

Taking a closer look at this year’s Scope art fair, we zoom in on New York’s Jonathan LeVine Gallery. They brought some old and some new to show Miami where they’ve come from and some of the new talent that’s coming down the pipeline. We caught WK Interact and Olek presenting fresh works alongside newcomers to the gallery such as Jason DeCaires Taylor and Aakash Nihalani with their thought provoking installations/photography. Check it out after the jump.

Interviews: MODE 2 – “Offerings” @ Lucas Carrieri Gallery

Earlier this fall, artist MODE 2 debuted a solid body of work entitled Offerings in Berlin’s Lucas Carrieri Gallery.
