Ladyboy, a solo exhibition by collagist Judith Supine, opens at New Image Art in West Hollywood on Wednesday, 13 April. It’s already been three years since the 2008 Dirt Mansion installation — the artist’s first solo effort at English Kills Art Gallery in Brooklyn. Wooster Collective described the show as their favourite of the year and AM can separately confirm that, quite frankly, it rocked. Slow Your Roll, the first UK solo show by Brooklyn art duo Skewville, launched last Friday at High Roller Society. AM took advantage of the East London gallery’s new Sunday opening hours to visit over the weekend in the calm of a non-preview atmosphere. On the way, we spotted one of Skewville’s recent outdoor pieces, featuring the painted and foam-stamped word “BEEF” aptly done on the shopfront shutter of a local butcher. Berlin-based American artist, Brad Downey, has been keeping himself rather busy lately. His first show in the Middle East, We Are Beginning: Personal Projects in Public Spaces, opened this week at Cuadro Fine Art Gallery in Dubai. In addition, Downey’s work features in the group show What Is Contemporary Art? which opened Friday at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Roskilde, Denmark. Highlights: The Affordable Art Fair, London

The Affordable Art Fair was in London at Battersea Park last week, with no piece on display exceeding the cap of £4,000. We like the fair’s aim of making contemporary art accessible to everyone. Many others clearly appreciate the concept as well, since the AAF is now in its thirteenth year. It’s also become international: fairs were held in February in Milan and Brussels, and the next ones are scheduled for May in New York, Amsterdam and Bristol, with an affiliate event also taking place […]

The solo exhibition Due Date by Brian Adam Douglas (interviewed) opened on Thursday 9 March to a full house at London’s Black Rat Projects. Douglas himself was fine form throughout the evening, chatting with visitors and signing copies of his new book, Paper cuts, published by Drago. Among the guests, AM spotted artists Peter Kennard, Matt Small (interviewed) and Giles Walker. Openings: Slinkachu – ‘Concrete Ocean’ @ Andipa Gallery

Last Wednesday 2 March saw the opening of the Slinkachu solo exhibition, Concrete Ocean (initially mentioned by us in January), at London’s Andipa Gallery. There was a refreshingly mixed crowd in attendance, with a number of the regular faces at East End shows having dusted off their passports and made the trek over to Knightsbridge. To the gallery’s credit, the complimentary bar never ran out of alcohol, which helped maintain a cheerful atmosphere throughout the evening. As for the art itself, guest reception was enthusiastic.
