Showing: STRARTA Art Fair 2013 @ Saatchi Gallery (London)

The inaugural edition of STRARTA fair was opened this weekend at Saatchi Gallery, at the very beginning of London art week. This new art fair was “conceived to provide a new world-class event for participating galleries, artists and visitors.” Aside from the high quality art fair, the event also features couple of separate sections and happenings, such as the Art Wars show (seen above), museum quality curated shows, and installations on the top floor of the gallery space, as well as art related talks and discussions. The […]

Streets: Gaia (Kingston, NY)

Not long after finishing his big installation at Rice University Art Gallery, prolific artist Gaia is back on the streets focusing on a new mural in Kingston, NY for the O+ Festival, a very unique event in which artists exchange their contributions for health and wellness services from art-loving doctors, dentists, and other medical providers. Gaia painted a massive, six story wall with Artemis, Greek goddess of the hunt and fertility in the center of it. This powerful female figure is represented through a marble statue that is emerging from […]

Streets: DALeast (Spain)

On his recent travels around the world, Chinese born artist DALeast (interviewed) stopped recently in Malaga, Spain, to leave his mark for the Malaga Maus project. Always up for pushing his work and technique, the artist decided not to place his mural on a flat wall, but used the architectural challenges of the place. The result is a magnificent mural titled Abiding in The Broken Heart which is showing a giant black bird with lots of smaller birds flying out of it. With his unmistakable line work, […]

Opening: Haroshi – “Pain” @ StolenSpace

On the 11th of October, StolenSpace in London opened a solo show of artist Haroshi. The Japanese artist that built his name and career around his huge love for skateboarding brought his latest work to the British capital in a show simply titled Pain. Influenced by his personal experiences of physical pain, both while skateboarding and while creating art, he wanted to show it as something that induces and encourage creativity and persistence. Looking at his unique practice of recycling old used skateboards, the concept of the show is […]

Previews: KAWS @ Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts (PAFA)

There are only few days left before Brooklyn-based artist, KAWS opens his solo show at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts (PAFA) in Philadelphia on October 11th. As previously mentioned the artist is working on the institution’s inaugural plinth sculpture, but also, these days he is busy installing his paintings in the galleries of the Historic Landmark Building. From the photos taken from KAWS’ Instagram, we can see that he has prepared a whole new series of his signature tondos in different sizes, but also, a new series of square canvases/panels. […]

Streets: Banksy – “Better Out Than In” (New York) – Day 5, 6, 7

After releasing a provocative video (seen directly below) for day #6 and a mobile waterfall truck for his day #5 of his Better Out Than In project in NYC, Banksy is continuing this event with a new street piece. For day #7 of his NYC residency, Mr. B revealed a fresh piece showing his infamous balloon heart. The image of the girl with a balloon heart flying away from her is one of his strongest, and most recognizable pieces, and it is obviously a special one for […]

Opening: Parra “And wait for something to happen” @ Ruttkowski;68, Germany

Parra (Piet Janssen) opened his newest solo show And wait for something to happen last Friday, 4th of October at Ruttkowski;68 gallery in Cologne, Germany. Known for his illustration style work that can be both abstract and figurative, the Dutch artist prepared an entirely new body of work for this show – 11 big canvases, 11 ink drawings, and porcelain editions he released in collaboration with CaseStudyo (two colorways of Down figure (introduced), and the Vaso di Culo vase). Even though his last solo show at Galleria Patricia Armocida (covered) was only four months […]

Releases: “Down” by Parra x Case Studyo

Perfectly timed with the opening of his And wait for something to happen solo show at Ruttkowski;68 gallery in Cologne, Germany, Dutch artist, illustrator and designer, Parra, is releasing another low edition porcelain figure with Belgian CaseStudyo. As a follow up the previous Lay Down…Lay it all down edition released few months ago, the new sculpt Down also comes in two colorways (black and white with polka dot patterns on them). The figure was first shown as a large scale fiberglass version at his Il Senso di Colpa (The Guilt) show at Galleria […]

Streets: Banksy – “Better Out Than In” (New York) – Day 4

It is his fourth day of his street residency in New York, and for today the ever elusive Banksy created an ongoing series of works titled Random graffiti given a Broadway makeover. Known for simple, witty ideas, this concept is a perfect example of the street artist’s creative thinking. By adding a flashy “The Musical” under random graffiti around the city, addressing either economic, political, neighborhood or completely private issues, the artist is commenting on the superficial way our society tends to look at these or other issues. This concept […]

Streets: Banksy – “Better Out Than In” (New York) – Day 1

Bristol’s elusive street artist, Banksy, just launched a website, BanksyNY.com, which is dedicated to a new project he hinted at on his official website some 10 days ago. According to the site, Better Out Than In appears to be a month long street residency during which Banksy will be attempting to host an entire show on the streets of New York. Staying true to his love for working in public, he just revealed his first piece (seen above) painted in Chinatown. Each one apparently will have  toll free number next to it, […]
