Releases: Mark Ryden – “Micro Portfolio 7 – The Gay 90’s Exhibition”

Tomorrow (August 30th) at 8am PST, Mark Ryden (interviewed) will be releasing the 1st printing of his Micro Portfolio 7 – The Gay 90’s Exhibition through Porterhouse. The 24 oversized (9″ x 6″) postcards includes paintings and drawings from The Gay 90’s Olde Tyme Art Show (covered) and The Gay Nineties West (covered). On September 1st, recent RISD MFA graduate Tristram Lansdowne (interviewed) will be opening a solo show in Toronto at Wil Kucey Gallery (formerly Le Gallery). Paintings by the Canadian artist for The Living Room were inspired by the modern homes designed by famous architect Le Corbusier and his cousin Pierre Jeanneret in their early years. Streets: Know Hope – “Vicariously Speaking” Project

Continuing his unique approach to his art form, Addam Yekutieli aka Know Hope (interviewed) recently revealed his latest project – Vicariously Speaking (commissioned by OZ Arts for OZ Art Fest). The Israeli artist began writing prisoners on death row in a Nashville penitentiary earlier this year. He then took key phrases from their correspondence and presented them on a series of billboards throughout the city written in his distinctive script. On October 8th, Seonna Hong (interviewed) will be opening a new exhibition at Hashimoto Contemporary entitled In Our Nature. The Los Angeles-based artist looks to be continuing her series of works that feature her girl characters and their animal companions as they explore roughly painted landscapes and geometric shapes. Upcoming: Eddie Peake – “Head” @ Deitch Projects

On September 8th, Jeffrey Deitch will be re-opening his Wooster Street gallery with three nights of performances from Eddie Peake. By reputation, attendees to the RSVP only ([email protected]) events will be seeing the human body on display with live music and original compositions. Inspired by after seeing ENDYMION, the London-born artist’s performance for Performa 13, Deitch decided to inaugurate his return to the NY art scene with Peake’s explorations of voyeurism, sexuality and gender. Continuing their series of curatorial group shows, Thinkspace will be bringing their roster of artists to Chicago on September 3rd at Vertical Gallery. Releases: Jim Houser – “Sidewalk Hymn” Print

Sidewalk Hymn is a new print released by Jim Houser through 1xRUN. The standard edition comes in a run of 40 and costs $65 whereas the hand-embellished edition comes in a run of 15 and costs $150. Measuring 24 x 18 inches, the prints are signed and numbered, have a COA included, and having framing as an option. Last weekend, the latest artist to paint a mural at the iconic Bowery & Houston corner in New York finished his weeks of hard work.
