Releases: Luke Chueh Hand Painted Masks

On August 22nd, Luke Chueh (interviewed) will be releasing several variations of a mask based on his iconic sad bear character. Set to be available through 1xRUN, they were created and hand painted personally by the Los Angeles-based artist while in Detroit for a show (covered) at Inner State Gallery earlier this year. Mounted and ready to be hung, they will cost $350 each and come in 4 colors including White, Black, Red, and Blue. Discuss Luke Chueh here.

Streets: Leon Keer (Dresden)

Street painting expert Leon Keer recently created a new piece in Dresden, Germany for the upcoming Magic City street exhibition. The Dutch artist is known for his anamorphic paintings on the ground that deceive the eye, with this latest piece being no different. Entitled Across the Border and painted in front of Scheune Dresden, it tells a story of hope and tolerance and is inspired by the famous Dresden Meissen porcelain figures. Discuss Leon Keer here.

Artist James “Dalek” Marshall (interviewed) recently released a new bedding collection through Target featuring his iconic imagery. The duvet cover set and pillow covers highlight different stages of his career including the space monkey phase as well as the current geometric pattern-based work his is known for now. Legendary filmmaker Guillermo del Toro (renowned for movies such as Hell Boy, Pan’s Labyrinth, Pacific Rim, and Crimson Peak) opened At Home With Monsters last weekend at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA). Last week, London’s Lazarides Rathbone opened a new solo show from Zevs entitled The Big Oil Splash. The new series of paintings (many featuring his iconic drips), monochromes and sculptures continue the French artist’s not so subtle criticism of humanity’s deleterious effects on the environment as well as our consumer-focused society. Streets: El Mac – “Spark of Divinity” (Sedona)

Recently in Sedona, Arizona, El Mac finished painting a mural that was commissioned by a local Whole Foods store. Near and dear to his heart, the piece featured a portrait of his mother-in-law and her granddaughter juxtaposed against a background inspired by the famous Beethoven Frieze by Austrian symbolist painter Gustav Klimt. His work was inspired by a “Beethoven symphony from 1824, which was inspired a poem, Ode To Joy, by Friedrich Schiller from 1785 which begins with the line – “Joy, beautiful spark of divinity…” – giving this mural its title. Release: Erik Parker New Kawela Surfboards

Recently, Paul Kasmin Shop released a set of three New Kawela surfboards designed by Erik Parker, hand shaped by Rockaway legend Joe Falcone for Pilgrim Surf + Supply and glassed by Sean Brewer. Offered in three different shapes (Egg Shape Single Fin, Rocket Fish, and Micro Fish), each limited edition board is custom made and will cost $3500. SDCC ’16: South Park 20th Anniversary Art Show
