Streets: Os Gemeos (Milan) – Part I

After collaborating with JR (interviewed) in Paris on some meaningful pieces (covered), Os Gemeos traveled to Milan to paint the inaugural mural for the “Outside the Cube” project. Taking advantage of the shape of the Pirelli HangarBicocca building where trains were built in the twentieth century, as well as referencing from the close proximity of railway lines running parallel to the site, the two brothers decided to paint one of their iconic yellow-skinned characters hanging from the back of a subway car. After some impressive shows on the West Coast, Andrew Hem (interviewed) will be moving east for his next solo show. Leap opens on May 14th at the Jonathan LeVine Gallery in New York and will feature the Los Angeles-based artist’s surreal otherworldly scenes painted with a vivid palette of blues, greens, reds, and splashes of golden light. The first image we have seen from the new body of work was recently shared by the artist with Cambodian heritage and it left us wanting more… Discuss Andrew Hem here.

Continuing to work with Archimedes Gallery, located just west of Portland, Josh Keyes (interviewed) will be presenting a new body of work come June 25th. The locally-based artist will be showing his post-apocalyptic visions of nature’s reclamation in a show entitled Overgrown alongside the sculptures of Eva Funderburgh. Discuss Josh Keyes here.

Continuing to share wall space together on occasion, ROID & Pref joined up recently on this sick collab in London. Interestingly painting strictly in black and white in this instance, the unique geometric style of the MSK affiliated ROID was the perfect foil to the ID crew writer Pref’s signature overlapping technique. Tonight at Krab Jab Studios in Seattle, a gallery specializing in the publication arts, group show Dream Covers will open. Curated by Lauren Panepinto, who has been designing and art-directing book covers for 13 years, the exhibition asks the question of what artists would created if they could illustrate covers only to please themselves. After a look at some of the artists at work on their pieces for the Sea Walls: Murals for Oceans project sponsored by the PangeaSeed Foundation, here is a look at some select walls they painted. The muralists were invited in by the non-profit in Napier, New Zealand to create works to raise awareness for ocean environmental issues. On April 28th, Zieher, Smith, & Horton will be putting on display Michael Dotson’s remix of iconic Disney imagery in a solo show. The New York-based artist started down this path when he stumbled upon Disney Screencaps, a website featuring almost every frame of every Disney movie ever made.
