Streets: Os Gemeos (Milan) – Part I

After collaborating with JR (interviewed) in Paris on some meaningful pieces (covered), Os Gemeos traveled to Milan to paint the inaugural mural for the “Outside the Cube” project. Taking advantage of the shape of the Pirelli HangarBicocca building where trains were built in the twentieth century, as well as referencing from the close proximity of railway lines running parallel to the site, the two brothers decided to paint one of their iconic yellow-skinned characters hanging from the back of a subway car. Entitled Efêmero, the almost finished multi-story high […]

Upcoming: Andrew Hem – “Leap” @ Jonathan LeVine Gallery

After some impressive shows on the West Coast, Andrew Hem (interviewed) will be moving east for his next solo show. Leap opens on May 14th at the Jonathan LeVine Gallery in New York and will feature the Los Angeles-based artist’s surreal otherworldly scenes painted with a vivid palette of blues, greens, reds, and splashes of golden light. The first image we have seen from the new body of work was recently shared by the artist with Cambodian heritage and it left us wanting more… Discuss Andrew Hem here.

Streets: ROID x Pref (London)

Continuing to share wall space together on occasion, ROID & Pref joined up recently on this sick collab in London. Interestingly painting strictly in black and white in this instance, the unique geometric style of the MSK affiliated ROID was the perfect foil to the ID crew writer Pref’s signature overlapping technique. Take a look at more closeup and in progress photos below… Photo credit: The artists and tdog86. Discuss ROID here.

Previews: Josh Reames – “Wet & Wild” @ Brand New Gallery

Tomorrow night (April 9th) in Milan, Brand New Gallery will be presenting new works from Josh Reames in a solo entitled Wet & Wild. The Brooklyn-based artist’s paintings are almost collage like in their composition, putting together a stream of consciousness collection of subject matter. He explains – “One thing that I am really interested in is the way that the Internet—browsing, blog rolling, etc.—takes away the hierarchy of image importance, meaning, and connection… I think about painting in a similar way, where images, marks, art historical […]

The muralists were invited in by the non-profit in Napier, New Zealand to create works to raise awareness for ocean environmental issues. The beautiful piece painted above was Askew (photo by Olivia Laita). Take a look at more of the walls below…

On April 28th, Zieher, Smith, & Horton will be putting on display Michael Dotson’s remix of iconic Disney imagery in a solo show. The New York-based artist started down this path when he stumbled upon Disney Screencaps, a website featuring almost every frame of every Disney movie ever made. Altering, twisting, and distorting the stills with his artistic vision, Dotson helps them reach their full potential by accenting different elements and incorporating electric colors and patterns. Take a look at some more photos below from a studio visit by […]
