Recap: Amy Sol – “Garden Garmine” @ Thinkspace Gallery

Last month, Amy Sol (interviewed) shared her newest body of work with her fans in Los Angeles at Thinkspace Gallery. Entitled Garden Gamine, her delicate scenes of creatures coexisting with her female subjects were rendered for the first time in oils. Jeff Soto for Empellón Taqueria (New York)

Earlier this month, Jeff Soto (interviewed) painted (with the assistance of his brother and sister-in-law) an impressive two-wall mural at Empellón in New York. Invited in by one of his long-time fans and chef Alex Stupak (seen below) to infuse his surreal imagery onto the walls of his West Village outpost, the California native chose to highlight the rooster as well a group of pottery growing imagined plants and succulents. The artwork was part of a remodel of the taqueria is largely symbolic, with themes of family, life and death, and nature. Streets: 1010 // The Crystal Ship (Belgium)

After a look at what ROA painted for the Crystal Ship Festival on the streets of Ostend, we now can share some photos of 1010 at work for the event. The German artist painted his signature patterns on these side of a structure, providing a striking contrast to the drab building with this optical illusion. Tomorrow night (April 23) at the Vincent Price Art Museum in Los Angeles, Silent Wonderment: Exploring the World of Giant Robot will open their doors to the public from 7-10 pm. Showing: “City Lights” @ Millennium Iconoclast Museum of Art

Although the opening was delayed due to the terrible recent events in Brussels, City Lights at the newly formed Millennium Iconoclast Museum of Art ended up kicking off successfully earlier this month. Previews: 123KLAN – “Style Is The Message” @ 1AM Gallery

Tomorrow night (April 21st) in San Francisco, the First Amendment Gallery (1AM SF) will be hosting a new solo show from 123KLAN (interviewed). Originally from France, this husband and wife duo are relocated to Montreal a while back where they have now prepared a new body of work entitled Style Is The Message for this exhibition. The fresh paintings are inspired by their experiences in the Bay Area and feature their signature fusion of graphic design and graffiti styles. Discuss 123KLAN here.

Upcoming: Tom Sach – “Boombox Retrospective, 1999–2016” @ Brooklyn Museum

Tomorrow night (April 21st) in New York, Tom Sachs will be sharing his collection of bricolage sculptural pieces inspired by the iconic boomboxes of the 70s and 80s (also see SXSW ’15). Boombox Retrospective, 1999–2016 at the Brooklyn Museum features eighteen works that illustrate the sculptor’s ability to recreate everyday objects with re-purposed materials. After a successful inaugural exhibition (covered), beinArt will be presenting a joint show starting April 30th featuring Chris Mars, Naoto Hattori, and Matt Dangler (interviewed). Entitled 3, the exhibition will include the dark narratives of Mars with work influenced by his experiences with his brother’s mental illness, Hattori’s psychedelic creations, and Dangler’s surreal creatures.
