Andrew Hem (interviewed) will be moving east for his next solo show, scheduled to open May 14th at Jonathan LeVine Gallery in New York. For his first solo at the Chelsea showspace, he will bring his surreal paintings influenced by his Asian heritage and the urban sensibility of his formative years in Los Angeles. Upcoming: Paco Pomet – “Recent Paintings” @ Richard Heller Gallery

For his third solo with Richard Heller Gallery, Paco Pomet will be presenting some Recent Paintings that continue his now well known modus operandi. The Granada-based artist creates works of art that look like loosely rendered vintage photos and landscapes that have unusual color accents or delightful surreal elements that can be seen when examined more closely. The opening is scheduled for May 14th for those interested in the Los Angeles area.

Releases: Dan May – “Road Trippin'” Print

On May 12th, this Thursday (12pm EST), Dan May (interviewed) will be releasing a new print entitled Road Trippin’ featuring some of his signature hairy critters going for a ride. Originally part of his Gentle Creatures print subscription but a few will be made available in his online shop. Returning to Jonathan LeVine Gallery after a successful showing there in 2013 (covered), Mike Leavitt (interviewed) will be presenting a new body of work come May 14th. Entitled King Cuts, the new sculptures focus on renowned directors, molded in a way that recalls some of their most famous movies. Streets: Ericailcane (Mexico)

While in town for his current solo show in Mexico City at Fifty24MX, Ericailcane found time to make his mark on the urban environment. Painted in his recognizable illustrative style, the new mural from the Italian artist features a fox and a rabbit entwined in branches. Cleverly utilizing the architectural connecting structures between his two anthropomorphic animal subjects, he shows once again why he’s considered one of the most skilled street artists out there today. Returning to Brooklyn’s Grumpy Bert after a showing there last year, Deth P. Sun will be this time teaming up with Gemma Correll for a joint exhibition. For his part, Sun will be contributing more acrylic on wood paintings of his cat-like adventurer, rendered in vivd colors. The wall in Rabat was transformed by the Spanish street artist in his typical comic-inspired style and can be found in in Jacob Mansoir for those in the area. For Art Basel in Switzerland coming up in June, Daniel Arsham will be presenting his signature “fictional archeology” to fans and collectors in Basel with a twist. While mainly working in black and white in the past due in part to his colorblindness, the Brooklyn-based artist received specially made lenses that corrected this problem last year and has recently been experimenting with works in color. AM contributing photographer and world traveler, Karl Hab, recently released a book about his experiences in Los Angeles. Entitled 24H LOS ANGELES, the 196 page publication (introduction by Daniel Arsham) has no page numbers, but instead features hours corresponding to these times: morning, noon, afternoon and evening. Album Covers: Kevin Peterson x Red Hot Chili Peppers

For their new album, The Getaway, the Red Hot Chili Peppers have decided to use the work of Kevin Peterson on the cover. The image chosen was cropped from the Houston-based artist’s Coalition II painting (seen below), some of his instantly recognizable imagery of children strolling through urban environments with their animal companions.
