Videos: Faile Interview from Ride5 Films

The two Patrick’s from Brooklyn-based  Faile (featured) were featured in a video interview with Ride5 Films recently. The duo talked candidly about the beginnings of their careers, the origin of their name, the importance of connecting with their audience, the impact of the Space Shuttle Challenger disaster and the associated imagery in their work, and much more. Releases: Kaws – “Partners” Figure

KAWS fans out there will be pleased to know that the next figure from the street turned contemporary artist has dropped. Partners features a sculpt of the artist standing next to his companion figure. If this looks familiar, it’s because you probably have seen the statue at Disneyland featuring Walt Disney standing next to Mickey Mouse although not cringing like in this version. Showing: Geoff McFetridge @ Cal Poly San Luis Obispo University Art Gallery

Geoff McFetridge, who recently dazzled us with his collaborations and showing with Heath Ceramics, traveled up north a bit to the Cal Poly San Luis Obispo for a solo exhibition at their University Art Gallery. Art Focus / Videos: Riusuke Fukahori

Riusuke Fukahori and his amazing three-dimensional paintings have been selected as our Art Focus this week. With incredible patience and with layer by layer of paint and poured resin, Fukahori builds up these incredible life-like creations of his favorite subject – goldfish. Preview / Setup: Hush – “New Work” @ 941 Geary

Tomorrow night in San Francisco, UK-based Hush (interviewed) will be bringing his blend of imagery from the Far East and urban sensibility to 941 Geary. From the preview photos we have seen, attendees will be enjoying small to large mixed-media works featuring his special technique that includes painting, screen printing, spray-painting and collage. Streets: David Choe, DVS-1, Joseph To (Denver)

After hitting up the new Facebook headquarters at the behest of Mark Zuckerberg, David Choe (featured) headed over to Mile-High City for the Terminal Kings project at the Denver International Airport. While that event (more on this later) also features the work of Sam Flores and Highgraff, David also brought along his friends, artists DVS-1 and Joseph To, to get in on the fun with some high energy collaborations. Openings: Chris Burden – “Metropolis II” @ LACMA

Last week, Chris Burden’s epic kinetic sculpture, Metropolis II, was revealed to the public at the LACMA. The complex and frenetic creation from the LA-based artist took four years to complete and is a model of a miniature city with an emphasis on an intricate transportation system. Included are 18 roadways, including one 6 lane freeway, train tracks, miniature cars, a network of buildings, which support the equivalent of approximately 100,000 cars circulating every hour.
