Video: Date Farmers x N.A.S.A – “A Volta”

Coachella-based artist duo the Date Farmers collaborated with the N.A.S.A (North America South America) project on a music video that premiered earlier this week. Entitled “A Volta,” the video featuring Sizzla, Amanda Blank, Love Foxxx definitely had the Mexican-American vibe going with the Date Farmer’s iconic robots creating havoc.  Check out the behind the scenes details at Boing Boing. This video is the third of the series (we showed you the videos with Shepard Fairey and Marcel Dzama previously). Discuss the Date Farmers here. Check […]

Video: Interview – Pharrell Williams / Murakami / The Simple Things – Basel Week Switzerland

Vernissage TV caught up with Pharrell Williams and interviewed him about the collaboration piece he did with Takashi Murakami and Jacob the Jeweler at Art Basel (Switzerland). Gems of this interview include where he says “bling, I do not wear,” how he was reluctant to call himself an artist, and his love for cupcakes (really, are they THAT good?).  Not sure we would have chosen the same “…simple things” he did, but we loved the sculpture. Discuss Murakami here.

Update: Banksy “Summer Show” @ Bristol City Museum?

Looks like the resourceful people over at Bristol Street Art have perhaps confirmed what has been suspected to be the location of Banksy’s surprise show – Bristol’s City Museum on Queen’s Road.  They went as far as taking a picture through the small gap in the front doors.  According to them, it looks like something Banksy did in 2007 in Glastonbury.  Apparently a private viewing “may” be held on the 12th of June with a public viewing starting on the 13th of June (usual museum opening hours 10 […]

Video: Takashi Murakami – “Superflat First Love”

If you liked the last Murakami x LV anime collaboration where little Aya’s cellphone is eaten by a giant LV Panda, who then swallows Aya into a psychedelic Murakami “Alice in Wonderland” world filled with creatures from his imagination, then you will like this new offering released yesterday from Kaikai KiKi entitled “Superflat First Love.” In a continuation of this story, set six years later, Aya now grown up, again encounters a strange creature who transports her to the 1800’s where she meets a young […]

Yoshitomo Nara x YNG Collaboration – Basel Week Switzerland

Just as he did for his museum show at the BALTIC, LA show last year, and show in NY this year, Yoshitomo Nara teams up with YNG to present another stunning installation at this year’s Art Basel (Switzerland) in what appears to be joint venture between Blum & Poe, Marianne Boesky Gallery, and Tomio Koyama Gallery.  The distinctively Nara structure was seen at Art Unlimited, the exhibition for projects that transcend the classical art, including video projections, large-scale installations, massive sculptures and live performances.  More […]

Openings: “Self-Portraits” @ Circle Culture Gallery

It’s always interesting to see how an artist views themselves, especially in the context of their own art. “Self Portraits” (previewed) which opened recently in Berlin at Circle Culture Gallery is based exactly on this concept. Each artist created a piece in their distinctive style that they felt best represented themselves. Take a look at what they came up with, after the jump…

Update: Joe Sorren

Joe Sorren has just updated his blog with a delightful new piece entitled “Filling Little Thoughts with Little Ears” just in time for summer. Once again, Sorren shows his whimsical touch and his mastery of lighting and composition. Look for an upcoming studio visit with AM, but in the meantime, you can take a closer look at this painting here. Discuss Joe Sorren here.

Teaser: Esao Andrews Solo Show @ Thinkspace Gallery

Esao Andrews is bringing his own special brand of gothic and grotesque surrealism to Silverlake gallery Thinkspace in October with a solo show. Here is a glimpse of his new body of work where we can see a wonderfully multicolored and dynamic edge of a dress in a large piece entitled “The Conjoined Bell” on his easel. We are sure his fans looking forward to seeing more of this show developing, but for now, take a look at the concept sketch for this piece after […]

Openings: Tim Biskup – “The Mystic Chords of Memory” @ Iguapop Gallery

Tim Biskup’s “The Mystic Chords of Memory” at Iguapop Gallery opened recently in Barcelona.  Based on the opening photos as well as the preview we posted earlier, it looks like for this body of work, Biskup is mixing his newer pixelated style with some imagery from the past with a dash of new vibrant colors.  Take a look at some pics from the show after the jump…

Openings: Slinkachu – “Whatever Happened to the Men of Tomorrow” @ Andipa Gallery

Anyone who has watched the recently released movie “Watchmen” will recognize the themes behind images of fat and balding superheros in miniature photographer and artist Slinkachu’s newest show. AM brings you coverage from the special preview of his show “Whatever Happened to the Men of Tomorrow” at Andipa Gallery. The UK “street” artist, who first gained fame for his “Little People Project” (photographs of tiny models in the streets of London), named this show after Alan Moore’s similarly named book which explores what happens to […]
