Openings: Chris Stain @ Carmichael Gallery

AM checked out Baltimore street artist Chris Stain’s solo exhibition, “Up On The Roof Countin’ Pigeons,” (previewed) at the Carmichael Gallery. Stain absolutely knocked one out of the park with his transformation of the front gallery space into a New York City rooftop scene, which featured an amazing gargantuan-sized mural on one of the gallery’s walls. Preview: Ilia of Btoy @ Carmichael Gallery

Ilia, half of the Barcelona street-art duo Btoy, will be participating in the group show “Lifeline” which opens concurrently with Chris Stain’s solo show (previewed) at the Carmichael Gallery on Thursday, February 5th @ 7pm. The gallery was kind enough to send us a few preview images that highlight Ilia’s signature style featuring delicate lines and a muted palette. The other artists on display in the group exhibition are Jim Darling, Alex Hornest, and Sesper. Check out the rest of the preview after the jump.

Preview/Interviews: Anthony Lister @ Fifty24SF

“Magic Tricks” is the latest solo exhibition from Australian-born painter and street artist Anthony Lister. His two-person show with Craola (previewed/interviewed) opens February 5th at Fifty24SF. Lister’s latest body of work veers away from his abstracted figural imagery and focuses on paintings derived from images found in his recent book, “Tales of White Trash Prophecy.” Read about this and more in the rest of our interview, after the jump.

Mark Ryden “The Tree Show” Signing @ LA MOCA

AM was on hand at Mark Ryden’s signing for his latest book “The Tree Show” at the MOCA store in Los Angeles. Hundreds of fans lined up for the opportunity to meet Ryden before he crosses the ocean for his upcoming show in Japan (teased). Openings: 15 Years of New Image Art

Last night’s opening for “15 Years of New Image Art” (previewed here and here) reaffirmed why New Image Art is one of the primary driving forces in the alternative/low-brow/street art scene. The show was everything we thought it would be and more – great art, an energetic crowd, and non-stop entertainment. Tonight marks the opening of New Image Art’s anniversary show “15 Years of New Image Art” (previewed). AM swung by the gallery yesterday to check out the progress of the installation. Denmark street artist Armsrock left his mark on Los Angeles while he was in town for “Mostly Memory,” his two-person solo with Elbow-Toe held at Thinkspace (previously covered). This Friday marks the opening of ART LA 2009, the New Los Angeles International Contemporary Art Fair, featuring a lineup of sixty emerging and blue-chip galleries.
