Studio Visit: Lucas Price

Lucas Price seems to be an artist in an ever changing state of evolution. His last major UK solo show Jesus Help Me Find My Proper Place suggested a level of confusion within its title – the work exhibited was produced in a variety of styles in an almost perfect allegory for his life as a fine artist under his own name, and also his street bombing alter ego of Cyclops. The work in the accomplished exhibition suggested that the artist had been in a […]

Openings: ‘Mixed Doubles’ @ Signal Gallery

AM attended our first opening at Signal Gallery’s new and much larger space for their Mixed Doubles group exhibition last week. John Squire was probably the first artist we ever collected from ‘art prints’ from back in the late 80’s when he produced Pollack-esque cover art for his band The Stone Roses. We collected the band’s limited 12 inch records (and still have them) with the limited art prints included in the package. Fast forward to 2011 and Squire is still working within the realm […]

Streets: Kid Acne – ‘Art Fags’ & Ema – ‘Dropmen’ (Paris)

One of our favourite things we’ve seen on the streets over the last few months have been Kid Acne’s Art Fags. Acne has frequently brightened the day with his playful creations, but this huge street art in-joke makes us smile everytime we come across one. KA has been on a pasting spree on the streets of Paris, along with partner in crime Ema – who has getting busy dropping her Dropmen alongside the looseys. Perhaps we will see some more action from Kid Acne in […]

Openings: ‘Printmaking Today / ROA Installation’ @ Black Rat Projects

AM had to cut our evening in London short this Thursday due to problems with the trains, so unfortunately missed our VNA friends’ new issue launch, but we did manage to get to Black Rat Projects’ Printmaking Today show. In addition to their great looking and very large multiple layered edition from Swoon (interviewed), BRP also presented a series of secondary market editioned works from such contemporary artists as Peter Blake, Tracy Emin, Grayson Perry, Peter Doig and Damien Hirst as well as editioned work […]

Releases: Nick Walker – ‘TMA New York’ Screenprint

It seems that Nick Walker (interviewed) has an affinity for New York. Following his recent visits to Williamsburg and the Meat Packing district last year, he is set to return later this month for the launch of his new screenprint TMA (The Morning After) New York. Watch for further details of the actual release in the next few days, but we hear that amongst other things Nick will be working on a new mural inside the Cooper Square Hotel, directly next to the Asian Pub […]

Video: Conor Harrington – ‘Crossing Lines’

It’s always a pleasure to see some of Conor Harrington’s (interviewed) outdoor work, and this beautifully produced short film that he recently put together was a real treat to watch. Crossing Lines documents his trip to Palestine and Israel last June, where he collaborated with Know Hope on a series of murals, as well as completed some solo efforts. Check it out. Releases / Launch Night: VNA Issue 14 @ East Gallery London

Our friends at VNA magazine have been dotting the I’s and crossing the T’s on their latest issue set to launch next week. Issue 14 features Sickboy on the cover – fresh in from his solo in Lisbon, and as always, the VNA boys have a special edition of 100 packs with a screenprinted cover available at the launch night to be held on Thursday 10th February at the East Gallery, Brick Lane London. The issue also has features on Mysterious Al, The Voina collective, […]

Openings: Steve More & Remi/Rough – ‘A’ @ Blackall Studios

Remi/Rough and Steve More opened their dual exhibition A last night to a full house at Blackall Studios. AM went along to see the work for ourselves. The two artists have been friends for years since they wrote graffiti together in the 80’s/90’s. They live and work at polar opposite ends of the UK – Rough in South London and More in Edinburgh, and work both individually and also as collaborators within the Agents of Change collective, whose British contingent came from the four corners […]

Preview / Setup: David Bray – ‘Disasters of the 20th Century’ @ StolenSpace

AM called into StolenSpace yesterday to see how the installation of David Bray’s solo show Disasters of the 20th Century was coming together. We enjoy the variety of elements Bray uses within his work, often weaving a selection of found materials and ephemera into his drawings, both inside and out the frame. What we saw at the gallery was a slight departure from his previous work that we’ve seen. Disasters narrows the focus of the work into a series of more traditional drawn and rendered […]

Previews: Sickboy – ‘Burning Desire’ @ Yellowpants Gallery Lisbon

If temples and typography set your world on fire, then Sickboy’s upcoming exhibition should be right up your street. Burning Desire opens this Thursday 3rd February in Lisbon. Presented by Yellowpants Gallery, we hear that the Sickboy has been in town since last weekend, so expect some heavy installation work from him. Some more preview flicks after the jump.
