Studio Visits: D*Face

D*Face is currently putting the final touches to a whole new body of work for his US West Coast debut solo show Going Nowhere Fast opening on April 9th at Corey Helford Gallery’s Culver City spot. AM has been anticipating what Face would come up with for this show, as he always turns up the heat for solo exhibitions and brings in new themes. We went along to his studio recently to see how the work was coming together and grabbed a few shots of […]

Openings: Kid Acne – ‘Rhythm is a Dancer’ @ StolenSpace

Kid Acne’s latest solo exhibition kicked off this week at StolenSpace and AM went along to see the work for ourselves at the opening on Thursday evening. We called in to see Mr. Acne earlier this month at his studio in Sheffield as he was putting the work together, but he still managed to pull out a host of surprises for us, not least in the centre-piece installation for Rhythm is a Dancer. A giant ashtray in the middle of the gallery floor housed some […]

Openings: Steal from Work – ‘Flogging a Dead Horse’ @ The Showroom, Bristol

Steal From Work (the guys that put on the 12 Days of Christmas and Not a Penny More group shows in Bristol) put on their first show in two years on Bristol’s busy Park Street. The production entitled Flogging a Dead Horse promised to be “a group show featuring the best (and worst) urban street contemporary artists in the world” and at first glance they really were true to their words. People wandering in were impressed by original canvases by the likes of Banksy, Hirst, […]

Previews: Jason Thielke – ‘Zero-zero’ @ David B Smith Gallery

David B. Smith Gallery in Denver’s next exhibition will be Zero-zero – a new collection of work from Jason Thielke. Unlike Thielke’s recent work where he uses gel transfer and laser etching to produce his compositions, Zero-zero promises an entirely fresh body of work comprised of drawn and painted works. It’s been almost 2 years since Thielke’s last solo exhibition of New Works at DBS where AM interviewed him ahead of the show. He tells us that Zero-zero is about achieving a hazy or obscure […]

Studio Visit: Kid Acne

Kid Acne has a solo show opening on 31st March at London’s StolenSpace Gallery entitled Rhythm is a Dancer which we at AM have been anticipating for a while. He has been spending time between Paris and the UK of late where we’ve seen him pasting his series of Art Fags on the streets. Acne has recently returned to his UK base of Sheffield, where is has taken up a studio space to prepare a new body of work for the upcoming show. We recently […]

Studio Visit: Polly Morgan

AM recently had the opportunity to go visit Polly Morgan in her East London studio. We anticipated what we might see. Tales of Polly’s ‘chamber of horrors’ from friends who had visited previously sounded intriguing and exciting, and this promised to be a very different studio visit experience for us. Polly is a member of the Guild of Taxidermists, and has been working as an artist since 2005, since which she has shown work via Banksy at the ’05 Santa’s Ghetto, at the currently hibernating […]

Streets: Phlegm in Sheffield

Whilst visiting Sheffield at the weekend, AM came across this new city centre piece from Phlegm. This cool sequential piece looks like it could have jumped straight out of the pages of the latest issue of his comic; and was painted over an older style colour Phlegm piece – the evidence of which can be seen seeping through the red background and also still partly intact top left of the shot. It seems that Phlegm is working his way across town painting over some of […]

Streets: Kid Acne’s giant ‘Art-Fag’ in Sheffield

AM ventured over to the wilds of South Yorkshire this weekend to visit the studio of Kid Acne, who is currently putting together a new body of work for his upcoming solo show at StolenSpace entitled Rhythm is a Dancer. More on that later…. The call of the outdoors apparently got the better of him though as he painted this huge ‘Art-Fag’ in the same spot as his Stick to the Plan slogan piece from last year. You can see it for miles around as […]

Showing: ‘Unintended Calculations’ @ Becker Galleries, Vancouver

Augustine Kofie, Jerry Inscoe, Remi/Rough and Scott Sueme were recently brought together for Unintended Calculations, an exhibition well curated by Indigo at Becker Galleries in Vancouver. The group of painters make for a dynamic combination, and each of the foursome presented post-graffiti inspired by abstract expressionism within their work. As well as the gallery exhibition, the artists took to the streets of Vancouver for some commissioned murals, which you can see here, courtesy of Graffuturism. Check out more shots from the gallery after the jump, […]

Openings: ‘Good Folks’ @ Show & Tell Gallery

Show & Tell Gallery in Toronto continue to impress us with a superb roster of artists. Their latest, Good Folks, opened last week and featured Swoon (interviewed), Monica Canilao, Jeremiah Maddock, Derek Mehaffey (aka Other), Labrona and Troy Dugas. Good Folks looks another well curated show, and brings together a distinguished balance of artists from the fringes of the folk art, street art and protest art movements. This show celebrates the first two years of the gallery’s existence, so we wish them well and much […]
