Preview: Timothy Karpinski @ Flat Color Gallery, Seattle

We’re big fans of the folk-art inspired work of Timothy Karpinski here at AM, and the mixed media artist and paper-cut technician will be showing off his skills with some new wares at a new solo show opening this evening in Seattle at Flatcolor Gallery. “This Feels Right” seems an apt title for the exhibition as Karpinski is one of the free-thinking co-owners of the Together Gallery in Portland, one of the great creative led community-vibe driven galleries out in that region. There will be […]

Preview / Studio Visits: Jonathan Darby @ Lebasse Projects, Culver City Artwalk

We saw that rising UK star Jonathan Darby posted some images on his blog from his studio of some new work in progress as he prepares for a showing with Lebasse Projects as part of the annual Culver City Artwalk, so we thought we’d ask him for a few more. Each body of work we see from Jonathan shows a progression and judging by the paint splatters on the studio walls and ceiling, it looks like he has been getting down and dirty to make some […]

Preview: Ricky Allman – “I had no defense, so I lied” @ David B. Smith Gallery, Denver

David B. Smith Gallery in Denver, Colorado continues it’s program of showing exciting and affordable young artists next month with the wonderfully titled “I had no defense, so I lied” solo exhibition by Ricky Allman, opening on Thursday, June 3rd. Allman has shown with the gallery before in group shows and part of a three person show alongside Grant Barnhart and Niall McClelland last year. This is Ricky’s first solo endeavor with DBS, and we look forward to seeing how his large scale compositions take […]

Streets: Nick Walker in Bristol

Most butterflies can only be expected to live for a week or two, but this little winged creature from Nick Walker only lasted for 7 hours before it was tagged over. Such is the nature of street art, but it must be pretty frustrating to see your hard work tagged over with something of little value. The mural is in Bristol, and went up earlier this week. Nick told us he went back yesterday to go over it again. We reckon version number 2 looks […]

Preview: “Strangers” Group Show @ Bold Hype Gallery

Bold Hype Gallery has been bringing the New Contemporary scene to Orlando for a while now. Their next group show, entitled “Strangers” is their first exhibition to be held at their new space following their recent relocation to New York. This show brings together an interesting international mix of artists for us, with some newer names amongst others we are more familiar with. Opening on Thursday 3rd June, Adam Alaniz, Chinamike, Andy Council, Heisuke Kitazawa (pcp), kozyndan , Travis Lampe, Sean Morris, Sidney Pink, Skinner, […]

“Beyond the Street” NY book launch @ Deitch Projects

AM UK recently attended the bustling evening that was the London launch of Patrick Nguyen & Stuart Mackenzie’s “Beyond The Street” book, hosted at Phillips de Pury. The level of support for the book came over extremely positively in the number of people that attended the event. Now, New York gets it’s turn as the stateside launch party is to be held next Thursday 27th May at Deitch Projects. Bring your copy of the book along or grab a copy at a discounted rate at […]

Preview: “The Future Tense” @ The Future Gallery, London

The Future Tense launches itself in London this week with a showing of represented artists Katrin Fridriks, Lee Baker, Mark Webber, Tom Oldham, Joseph Loughborough, Jamie Shaw and Louis Hudson. We particularly like the look of Katrin Fridriks’ work, pictured above. The Icelandic artist currently lives and works in Paris where she composes her abstract explosions of colour using an almost perfect balance of order and refinement complimenting the chaos and urgency seen within her work. The official opening takes place on Wednesday 26th May, […]

Releases / Giveaway: VNA Issue 11

Pretty much every show or event we attend, we bump into a group of regulars out showing their support. The VNA crew are no exception to this. We just recently picked up a copy of the brand new edition of VNA – Issue 11 – which features Insa, Case, Gaia and Mike Giant amongst others. This issue builds upon VNA’s already amazing collection of current street art, graffiti, paste up’s and sticker action, but this time adds more features and interviews. Issue 11 definitely deserves […]

Giveaway: Charlie Immer Hand Embellished Editions from Virtu Art Gallery

Remember we ran a giveaway recently for one of these great hand finished Brandi Milne editions? Our friend Tom at Virtu Art Gallery, the publisher of the print, has again generously donated a rather special giveaway item for AM’s readers. Charlie Immer’s work is stunningly detailed & we love his metaphysical surrealist paintings and his bold use of colour. Virtu has just published two great fine art editions from the artist. Here’s the skinny on the giveaway: “Immer’s Inner World Contest” Just leave a comment here […]

“Art From The New World” – Gary Baseman Hosted Tour / Artist Signing Event

Following on from the fantastic preview evening last Friday, Corey Helford Gallery’s “Art from the New World” continued to draw in the crowds on Saturday afternoon for the public opening consisting of a guided tour of the exhibition hosted by the inimitable Gary Baseman and a meet-and-greet signing session with the artists. Baseman held court in the lobby of Bristol City Museum alongside his costumed characters, giving an enjoyable potted history of the new contemporary scene and discussing how he and many of his peers […]
