Upcoming: Matthew Palladino @ Garth Greenan Gallery

Tonight in Chelsea, the locally-based Matthew Palladino (interviewed) will be opening a new show at Garth Greenan Gallery. We last enjoyed his work in New York back in 2011, and fans who attended that showing and plan to be present tonight will see that his work has evolved since to include three-dimensional elements to his repertoire. The same explorations of ideas of perspective can be seen in these new pieces as well Palladino’s well-honed sense of humor. Discuss Matthew Palladino here.

After featuring his works in a couple of group shows over the years, Galeria Patricia Armocide recently opened a solo from Todd James. Entitled Secret Garden the show includes seven large-scale acrylic on canvas paintings and eight medium and small-scale gouache on paper paintings, and will stay on view until the 1st of August. We were granted access during the set-up as Sixe Paredes (formerly known as Sixeart) was prepping the launch of his new exhibition on May 21st entitled Futurismo Ancestral: An Offering to Peru at Somerset House in London (curated by Approved By Pablo). Alice Gallery in Brussels recently opened a big group show entitled Just Before Brazil. As we mentioned last week, the Thinkspace Gallery curating a show entitled LAX / TXL as part of the fourth stage of a project by Urban Nation. Along with this group exhibition, some artists have been recruited to create 10×10 foot window murals including Alexis Diaz (aka La Pandilla) – seen above, Andrew Schoultz, C215, Curiot, Fernando Chamarelli, Glenn Barr, Joao Ruas, Low Bros, Nosego, Word To Mother, plus a massive full building mural from Dabs Myla. As it had been 12 years since Ai Yamaguchi’s last solo exhibition in New York City, the level of expectation and excitement for her return was understandably high. It looks like the Lazarides Gallery recently stopped by Conor Harrington’s (interviewed) studio to check in on the UK-based painter. What they saw was some amazing new works in progress for his upcoming debut show in New York later this year, presumably a pop up put on by the London-based gallery. Entitled Eat and Delete, the exhibition will include 10-12 large canvases that continues where the Irish artist’s Dead Meat show in London (covered) left off.
