Openings: Jen Lobo – “Inherit The Wound” @ Thinkspace Gallery

Last Saturday night, Jen Lobo unveiled a new body of work collectively entitled “Inherit The Wound”, sharing the gallery walls with Scott Radke at Thinkspace. The show featured four new oil paintings on wood panel alongside two new watercolor works on paper, all depicting her fanciful renderings of wildlife including her signature whales. Ai Weiwei Released by Chinese Authorities

After being detained since April 3rd, the Chinese state news agency, Xinhau, today reported Ai Weiwei has finally been released on bail “because of his good attitude in confessing his crimes.” China’s most well known artist and activist, who has long been an outspoken critic of domestic humanitarian policies and effectively foreshadowed his own dire fate in his last blog entry before it was taken down the government, spent almost three months – 81 days – behind closed doors on alleged “economic charges”, though one […]

According to our friend Amanda Erlanson, the long awaited HEROES & VILLAINS book has finally been released. In it, photographers Tatiana Wills and Roman Cho take snapshots of many of the artists we follow here on AM. Openings: “Assorted Flavor” @ Known Gallery

This past Saturday, the Known Gallery and gallery director Casey Zoltan, presented an exhibition titled Assorted Flavor which featured the eclectic work of seven different artists. The lineup included the likes of Kevin Ancell, Jason Jägel, Saber, Patrick Martinez, Greg Lamarche, Push and Augustine Kofie. Displayed across a wide open space perfectly suitable for this kind of exhibit, the artwork showed an interesting mix of graffiti-style art, mixed media work, and even some traditional painting. A young artist we have had our eye on for some time, Frank Gonzales, is getting ready for a solo in Santa Fe, New Mexico at Beals & Abbate Fine Art. The New York-based artist is currently working on the new body of work in preparation for the September including the piece seen above.
