Openings: Tomoo Gokita – “Wildest Dreams” @ ATM Gallery

We recently swung by ATM gallery to check out Tomoo Gokita’s latest show “Wildest Dreams”. The body of work was quite a departure from his usual style that we witnessed at his previous showing (here) at Honor Frasier Gallery as these new canvases measured more than 4-5 feet each way and it was more “literal” in style. It seems that these works took less of an abstract view and had a more concise focus. Bill from ATM gallery took the time to take us to the back […]

Koons recently unveiled the concept design for his automotive masterpiece which was inspired by his desire for the checkered flag leading him to create the streaking effect with saturated hues. Utilizing muted subjects, bright splashes of color, and the occasional reflective surface, “The Fool” is an intriguing look at a variety of subjects, from society’s downtrodden to the viewer themselves. Opening photos after the jump.

Happy Easter! Ron English – The Ascension of Santa Christ

Hope everyone is having a good Easter! Ron English (featured) was in Colorado Springs yesterday and sent us this video of him launching “Santa Christ”. A funny and strange play on this holiday… could it be his spin on the joke: “Who gets to cross first at the Stop Sign when there’s the Easter Bunny, Santa Clause, and the perfect…” Enjoy the video. Discuss Ron English here.

Overtime: March 28 – April 3

Looks like the Pop Life exhibition has moved on to Hamburg. The price of being on the board of a public arts institution. SFMOMA looking for an architect for a new extension. Stolen art! Speaking of which, Dennis Hopper’s wife sniped his Banksy. How do you “forget” the Ansel Adams murals in your collection? An exhibition of Andy Warhol’s photographs. Painted people as optical illusions by Alexa Meade. Nathan Ota and Eric Fortune at work. Stella Im Hultberg shows off more of her fantastic sketchbook. […]
