Update: Arrested Motion x Analog Color Videos / Todd Schorr & Jeff Soto

Just wanted to update the readers of AM on the video projects we are working on with Jeremy Lynch and the guys at Analog Color.  First on the schedule today, was wrapping up the mini-documentary featuring Jeff Soto and his Riverside Art Museum show.  We were able to spend some time interviewing Jeff as well as catch some shots of the beautiful IE. Next up on the Sunday’s busy schedule, was to begin filming a session at Todd Schorr’s studio as we will be working […]

Armory Focus: Opus Art @ Bridge Art Fair

During Armory Week, there were a few things that caught our attention. One of the highlights of the Bridge Art Fair was British gallery Opus Art who traveled from the UK to show New York just what they have to offer. Opus brings a hip mix of Contemporary and Urban artists that included: Chris Kettle, Peter Blake, SHEONE, Justine Smith, Lex Thomas, Dave White, Hush, Bai Tao and Johan Andersson. AM spent some time gazing at the diverse range of great works showcased at their booth. We got […]

Armory Week: Armory Art Show NYC

The ARMORY Art Show as it’s name implies, was literally a stockpile of the art world’s heavy artillery. With works from Damien Hirst, Yoshitomo Nara, Kara Walker, Kenny Scharf, Kehinde Wiley, Gilbert & George, Julian Opie, Marilyn Minters, Tom Sachs and many more, the stockade of high caliber art stretched the imagination. Much like Art Basel in Miami, we struggled to keep up with the long aisles filled with notable galleries such as White Cube, Emmanuel Perrotin, Honor Fraser, and Mizuma that all brought their […]

Openings/Signing: Brendan Monroe @ Park Life

Last night, AM was fortunate enough to attend Brendan Monroe’s (interviewed) opening and book signing at the Park Life Store in San Francisco.  Brendan, who is soft spoken, modest and rather inviting, cheerfully signed and doodled copies of his new book, b. monroe. The monograph is a stunning look into the artist’s mind, diving deep into the microcosmos of Brendan’s work. Compiling his sculpture and paintings from 2005 to 2007, the book perfectly captures the scope of Brendan’s world, made all the more impressive by […]

Preview/Interviews: Mike Leavitt – “Don’t Stop Object Shopping” @ Fuse Gallery

Seattle based artist Mike Leavitt is opening up his show “Don’t Stop Object Shopping” in New York at the Fuse Gallery on March 21st. His versatility as almost a modern day renaissance man, working in many different mediums and art forms, has always impressed us but in particular his Art Army figures and more recently, his cardboard shoes have caught our eye. Luckily, many examples of both series will be on display for this exhibition. He talks about his work among other things in an […]

Murakami Transforms the City of Bilbao and Transport System

Continuing with our coverage of Murakami’s Retrospective in Spain, we now bring you images of how Murakami has been transforming the city with his signature imagery.  From February to May, more that 100 shop windows in Bilbao’s Old Town will be decorated with his famed flowers along with some of the public transport system.  The hope is to draw businesses located in the city’s historic quarter closer to the Bilbao cultural scene and encourage residents and tourists alike to partake of this fantastic exhibition at […]

Previews: I Know What You’re Thinking @ Sloan Fine Art

Next Wednesday, March 18th, Sloan Fine Art will be opening a new three-person show entitled I Know What You’re Thinking, featuring the work of Seonna Hong (above), Caroline Hwang and Saelee Oh. Seonna Hong is a multi-talented artist working in painting, illustration and animation. She is also the only non-Japanese artist in Takashi Murakami’s Kaikai Kiki group. Recently, Hong seems to be bringing her animation background more into her fine art, creating mixed-media works with layers of paper and velum. Brooklyn artist Caroline Hwang creates […]

Cuadro Fine Art Gallery, in collaboration with KRUNK, will be hosting a three-man exhibition featuring urban legends Phil Frost, Futura, and Stash later this month. The show will held in conjunction with Art Dubai, U.A.E.’s third annual contemporary art fair, part of their ever-growing ambitions to become the center of the art world (see article on construction of their cultural district). A Collector’s Lunch is scheduled for March 17th and an evening Preview Reception on March 19 will open the exhibition which will remain on […]

Murakami Guggenheim – Bilbao Video Tour

The Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, Spain recently released a series of videos with Takashi Murakami introducing some the artwork he’s showing there in his retrospective exhibition.  He waxes eloquent about his sculptures, paintings, and installations.  Unfortunately, if you don’t speak Japanese or Spanish it will only be eye candy to you.  The entire series after the jump for those interested…

Preview: David O’Brien & Tofer Chin @ Cerasoli Gallery

Fresh from a successful showing of work at Art Basel, David O’Brien has his second solo show opening at Cerasoli Gallery on Saturday, March 14th entitled “Explosions in a Mental Sky”.  Also opening in gallery 2 is Tofer Chin’s “Double Dip” solo show. We love the bold use of color and the combination of natural and geometric patterns that these two artists put to canvas. Sure to be a great pairing for a show – some of the pieces in the show will be huge, […]
