Tonight in New York, P·P·O·W will be hosting the opening of a new solo from Erin M. Riley (interviewed) entitled Used Tape. Continuing to tackle issues that have become even more timely in this #metoo era, the Brooklyn-based artist uses her weaving skills to depict imagery that pushing the boundaries of the traditional medium. The American artist’s artistic vision takes Escher-like influences and combines with them a urban sensibility as well as surreal elements, leading to frenetic compositions that overwhelm the eye in a way that’s uniquely his own. Between the 9th and 15th of May, Peter Opheim held a show at Hankyu Umeda Gallery in Osaka, Japan, as a part of a larger project called New York Art. The showcase is organized by the HPGRP Gallery Tokyo/New York and is his third solo presentation this year after exhibitions in Taipei and Moscow. As part of the $620 million “Dust to Gold” renovation at the Palms Casino Resort, an impressive collection ranging from blue-chip works to street art murals was acquired, commissioned, and deployed throughout the hotel. This Friday (May 24th), Evah Fan will be opening Inside, Outside, Come Around, her new show at Park Life in San Francisco. For this exhibition, the locally-based artist has created a handful of window studies for the gallery space, creating “windows” in a small windowless room. The premise of the new body of work as well as the imagery once again highlights the sense of play and whimsy that can often be seen in Fan’s work.
