Releases: Mark Ryden – “Pinxit” Book

Today marks the release by Taschen of Mark Ryden’s Pinxit (the title is a playful references to both the preponderance of pink in his work and the Latin word meaning “he painted this,” which artists like Ingres and Rubens once appended after their signatures according to Erratic Phenomena). The publication is the most comprehensive survey of Ryden’s 20 year career and works ever and if the book to have if you are a fan although it will set you back a pretty penny. The initial release will […]

Openings: “East West Connect” @ Above Second

Last Friday night, the Above Second Gallery in Hong Kong hosted Arrested Motion’s first curatorial project, East West Connect, with a lineup that represented the diverse selection of art we love and cover for you every day. It was gratifying to see that art fans in HK appreciated this type of art as well, evidenced by the turnout and the fact that most pieces that sold so far have found homes with local collectors. We also enjoyed some interesting discussions with attendees on the idea and […]

Basel Week Miami ’11: Underbelly Show

Remember that secretive and unprecedented undertaking in New York last year entitled the Underbelly Project. Toiling four stories underground in an abandoned subway station in New York, over 100 artists invited by PAC and Workhouse left their mark on the space with murals and graffiti. Although the original “urban gallery” was sealed and unaccessible, this environment will be recreated in Miami for the Underbelly Show opening from Dec. 2 -5 (78 NW 25th Street in Miami, FL). Not only will the exhibition feature photos that documented […]

Although English’s work focuses on this visual style, he also presented a variety of incredible detailed paintings featuring a series of animals camouflaging amidst hyperreal forest-like environments. The exhibit was packed from the […]
