The “Who Killed The Music” benefit art show kicked off yesterday with a night of good art, music, and familiar faces all around. Co-curated by will.i.am (seen above with Travis Louie), Kris Lewis, and David B. AM stopped by for a visit with Travis Louie (interviewed) and Lola this morning as they were putting on the finishing touches to their customized blackberries before the private opening of the “Who Killed The Music” Grammy Show tonight. The cell phones will be displayed next to each artist’s painting with a winning design chosen at the end of the show to be put into production. Take a look at the duo in action after the jump…

Openings: Group Show – “Cherry Pie” @ Western Project

Western Project kicked opened the doors on Jan 16, 2010 at their new location in Culver City on La Cienega with a group show (previewed) featuring spectacular artwork by Mark Dean Veca (interviewed) and artists Justin Bower, Sush Machida Gaikotsu, Patrick Lee, Russ Meyer, and Liz Young which runs until Feb. 20. Openings: London Art Fair

This year’s London Art Fair, held from January 13-17, attracted over 23,000 visitors and featured a wide variety of art to hold their attention. No matter how many art fairs we see or attend, we can never get enough of tremendous amount of paintings, sculptures, videos, installations, and other art on display – buffet style. A couple weeks ago, Thinkspace hosted “A Cry For Help,” a show that donated part of the proceeds to support Born Free USA & the Animal Protection Institute. Following our studio visit with Mike Shine last week (here), AM headed down to San Francisco to check out the fruits of his recent labors for SFMoMA‘s 75th Anniversary. Glenn Barr’s show at The 4th Wall Gallery (previewed) opened last weekend in Dallas with a fantastic new body of work. Sprinkled among paintings of his signature vixens were serpent women, bird-girls and other hybrid creatures. To round out the show, he also had drawings, prints, and his “Happiness” bronze on display. Also exhibiting along with Barr were THH70 & Joey Seeman. We weren’t all too familiar with Jeremy Geddes’ work when we planned our coverage of the HK Venture show where Ashley Wood was the main draw for us. Seeing Geddes’ amazing visuals was definitely an eye-opener for us, so much so that we dedicated another article focusing in on his “cosmonaut” series of paintings.
