Preview: Hush @ Opus Gallery

On November 7th, Opus Gallery in Newcastle will premier a show featuring UK urban sensation Hush. His style is a product of a unique background of street art, manga and illustration. Having spent a few years in Hong Kong working to expand on his craft, Hush brings a refreshing Asian flair to his work. Coming off of sold-out shows earlier this year in London (Opus Gallery) and Los Angeles (Carmichael Gallery), many fans are eagerly waiting to see what’s next. AM obtained a special sneak […]

Josh Keyes Creative Process

Josh Keyes recently posted up some miscellaneous photos relating to his current show at OKOK gallery in his forum. It’s always interesting to learn about the inspirations, ideas, and creative processes of an artist.  For example, look how he incorporated a local mailbox (graffiti and all) into his “Totem IV” painting.  As most of you know, he used a lot of northwest Native American imagery for this show.  So, notice how he placed the logo for the American Indian Movement on mailbox as well (there […]

Teaser: Nicoletta Ceccoli @ Richard Goodall

San Marino based artist Nicoletta Ceccoli has sent us some exclusive images from her upcoming show at Richard Goodall Gallery in December.  We have been anticipating this show for quite a while since her job as an illustrator does not allow her time to exhibit as often as her fans would like. Her fairytale-like paintings have been described as a having a Ryden-esque feel to them yet softer and more delicate. In particular, we like the clever way in which her characters are painted such […]

Openings: In Language of Angels @ Ad Hoc

With the DJ spinning and the hipsters of Williamsburg crowded about on Friday night, Ad Hoc Art opened their new show “In Language of Angels”. The six artist show was a nice compliment to the diverse Brooklyn crowd. Seen in the exhibit were: the Manga-esqe Camilla d’Errico, the bold Lisa Alisa, the entrancing Sarah Joncas, the embroidery laced layouts of Simone Maynard, the digitally detailed Mijn Schatje, and the dynamic illustrations of MIA. This was a great show for AM to attend as Ad Hoc […]

Teaser: The Drawing Room @ Thinkspace

Looking forward to this show at Thinkspace on November 7th not only because Audrey Kawasaki is in it, but also because she is curating it. It seems that artist curated group shows (others that come to mind include Luke Chueh and Travis Louie) usually include some very good names from their genre for some obvious reasons. Audrey’s assembled cast is no exception – Stella Im Hultberg, Amy Sol, Kukula, Brandi Milne, Brian Viveros, Catherine Brooks, Mari Inukai, Nomi Chi, Lauren Albert, Jessica McCourt, Julia Sonmi […]

Sketch for Change

No matter what your political leanings are, you must still admit these “Sketch for Change” pieces are pretty rad. These auctions are ending one by one as we speak, but don’t worry … they are putting up more for auction everyday. We like the way each artist has incorporated political logos and iconic imagery into each of their pieces. Seem as though collectors agree as the auctions seem to be ending with some astronomical prices for simple sketches (perhaps politically motivated bids as well). More […]

Eric Beltz @ Morgan Lehman

We’re not sure how we missed this… but AM recommends checking out Eric Beltz’s solo show, The Good Land, at Chelsea’s Morgan Lehman Gallery. Beltz creates intricately detailed graphite works on paper filled with allegorical images from American history. The show runs until November 8.

Yoshitomo Nara @ BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art

If you are lucky enough to be in the UK and haven’t stopped by to see Yoshitomo Nara’s show at the Baltic, this is the last weekend. He teamed up with Hideki Toyoshima (one of the founding members of graf) to build three cross-shaped houses called the “A to Z Project” for the exhibit. It would be so satisfying to be able to walk slowly through this exhibit and explore all the nooks and crannies … hopefully AM will be able to experience something similar […]

Preview: Joe Ledbetter @ M Modern

Palm Springs will play host to Joe Ledbetter’s solo show “Hunters and Gatherers” tomorrow night at M Modern Gallery. His usual cast of characters play out the multiple stories and interactions that he creates for them. He seems to have moved away from the lighter faded linework that he had been experimenting with in previous shows and again is painting with stronger silhouettes. Some selected pieces after the jump.

Preview: Faile @ Lazarides – Vauxhall, UK

When we last left Faile, the Brooklyn collective was hard at work prepping for their upcoming show in the UK.  Now, AM brings you an exclusive glimpse of the show. Set in a abandoned school house in Vauxhall London, Faile and Laz bring the heat on November 7th with “Lost in Glimmering Shadows”. It will be another signature “must see or will regret events” much like the Outsiders show in NYC. Faile – Lost in Glimmering Shadows Lillian Baylis School, Lollard St London, SE11 6PY […]
