Streets: Rustam Qbic (Ravenna)

Moving a lot around Europe lately, Rustam Qbic recently visited the Italian city of Ravenna where he painted his contribution to the Subsidenze Street Art Festival. Working three long days in the warm Italian sun, the Kazan artist quickly finished this new piece titled Immigration. Measuring 15m x 5m, this wall is a nice example of the symbolic surrealistic images that Qbic has been painting around the globe. On June 25th, Thinkspace Gallery opened New Works, a double solo by artists Jeremy Fish and Jim Houser. Both artist built their careers through their love for drawing, music and skate culture, creating influential and distinctive works and graphics along the way. This show introduces their latest bodies of work. Featuring their signature styles and recognizable concepts, the fresh pieces are the results of years of drawing and keeping up with the subcultures they grew up with. After seeing her wall mural painted for Guzzo Club in Barcelona, we have wondered how Cinta Vidal’s work would translate to the streets. With her recent series of experimental pieces with her friend Uriginal on the streets of her hometown, fans of her work now have an idea. In May, we shared with you the amazing takeover by JR (interviewed) at the famous Louvre in Paris where he pasted over the iconic pyramid using photographs of the surrounding structures. Looking at the right angle, it appeared that the pyramid in the main courtyard “disappears” from sight. Who better to collaborate with next in an inception-like project than with China’s disappearing man – Liu Bolin? After two months of participating in 999 Foundation’s Artist Resistance Residency, Seth aka Julien Malland will be revealing his solo show entitled Range Ta Chambre (Clean Up Your Room) in Rome on the 7th of July. On July 7th, artist and illustrator Von (interviewed) will be opening a new solo show entitled Echoes at StolenSpace in London. The new body of work in graphite is a continuation of his Elsewhere series – capturing this fleeting moments of personal reflection that is becoming rare in our digital world. Openings: KAWS – “BFF” @ Central Embassy (Bangkok)

A couple of days ago, Central Embassy in Bangkok unveiled the latest large-scale sculpture from KAWS, standing 8 meters tall outside their complex. Produced with the help of curator AllRightsReserved, the event also featured a plush version of the figure, which looked to be a cross between Elmo & The Cookie Monster, remixed the the Brooklyn-based artist’s double-x eyes and skull & cross bones. If you are a fan of Takashi Murakami and have visited Japan in the past, you may have made a stop at Bar Zingaro, the spirits section that connects his galleries in the Nakano Broadway mall in Tokyo. He now has his own line of sake to serve his customers with the recent release of a collaboration with NEXT5 Sake. All the different versions of bottles are adorned with the Japanese artist’s signature flower motif, but the ceramic bottles will come in three colors (gold ones signed by the artist himself).
