Previews: DMV – ‘Residence’ @ Villa Alliv

On Saturday, the 30th of April, Villa Alliv in Marseille, France will open its doors for a new exhibition entitled Residence. JAW, KAN and BLO, members of the Da Mental Vaporz crew have transformed the space following a two week residency. The new body of work is a the result of collaborations between the artists, carried out in situ. Under impulse and improvisation, they bring their instinctive and distinctive methods together – street pointillism (KAN), abstraction (BLO) and image destructuring (JAW) – to create surrealist compositions.

Earlier this month, Jeff Soto (interviewed) painted (with the assistance of his brother and sister-in-law) an impressive two-wall mural at Empellón in New York. Invited in by one of his long-time fans and chef Alex Stupak (seen below) to infuse his surreal imagery onto the walls of his West Village outpost, the California native chose to highlight the rooster as well a group of pottery growing imagined plants and succulents. It was a grey, rainy Friday night on April 15th when Denver’s Svper Ordinary unveiled the newest body of work from stencil artist and Denver resident Mando Marie (also known as Amanda Marie). The new work contains number of new images and themes, but features the nostalgia and narrative elements that she is best known for. Streets: Guido van Helten (Chernobyl)

Guido van Helten recently visited a restricted area in Ukraine and painted a mural inside disused and unfinished Chernobyl Reactor 5. As a part of the ongoing ArtUnitedUs project, curated by Geo Leros, Iryna Kanishcheva, Waone Interesni Kazki, and Ilya Sagaidak, the work commemorates the 30th anniversary of the world’s biggest nuclear catastrophe that happened on April 26, 1986. Streets: 1010 // The Crystal Ship (Belgium)

After a look at what ROA painted for the Crystal Ship Festival on the streets of Ostend, we now can share some photos of 1010 at work for the event. The German artist painted his signature patterns on these side of a structure, providing a striking contrast to the drab building with this optical illusion. Irish graffiti artist Maser is currently showing his first solo exhibition entitled Orbiting on the Periphery at Lazarides Rathbone in London.
