Openings: Usugrow – “Inkflow” @ Fifty24SF

Over the weekend, Fifty24SF hosted the opening for Usugrow’s new solo up in the Bay Area. Featuring his calligraphy on the walls as well in the pieces for sale, Inkflow marks his return to the San Francisco art scene after showing there in 2007 and participating in a group show with his Shinganist crew back in 2009 (covered). Following his group shows in the US and recent installation at the Toulouse Museum in France, we visited the cabinet of curiosities of lowbrow artist 100taur in Toulouse ahead of his upcoming solo show ‘Monsters in my closet’ at the Artoyz gallery in Paris. The French artist’s work is multidisciplinary and his creativity expands from graffiti, paintings, drawings, engraving to sculpture, installations and taxidermy. Tomorrow night (October 9th) at the 557C W. 23rd St. location of Jonathan LeVine Gallery in New York, a new solo from Alex Gross (interviewed) will be opening. Baby Tattooville ’14: Gift Bags

Even though Baby Tattooville founder Bob Self explained that his vision for the gift bags is that they are “souvenirs of a remarkable weekend,” any visitors would say they are much more than that. Streets: Shepard Fairey (Toronto)

After a recent set of murals realized in Los Angeles, Chicago, Philly, New York, Berlin, and Johannesburg, the tour concluded in Toronto for Shepard Fairey (featured) and the Obey crew. Some of the main pieces were created at the The Gladstone Hotel & Tattoo if you are local and want to hunt these down. Last week, Yoskay Yamamoto (interviewed) opened a solo at the Hellion Gallery in Portland entitled Rainy Day with a Chance of Sun. After seeing some studio shots of some of the small originals and sculptural pieces he was working on, it was nice to finally visualize how the LA-based artist assembled and clustered them together. Now showing through October 25th at the Hannah Hoffman Gallery in Los Angeles is a new body of work from Sam Falls, whose sculptural pieces were also recently displayed MetroTech Center in Brooklyn (covered). Last month, we brought you a look at the murals Aryz, Escif, and Kenor, painted for the WE AArt festival in Aalborg, Denmark. Openings: Carl Krull – “Seismic” @ V1 Gallery

After a studio visit with Carl Krull, it was gratifying to see his new works displayed on the walls of V1 Gallery last week. Creating his imagery through a pattern of repetitive lines, the fresh pieces were collectively entitled Seismic and sometimes formed faces almost looking like pin art or other more complex compositions.
