Streets: Faile & Bäst (New York)

Brooklyn based artists and constant collaborators (see Deluxx Fluxx Arcade), Faile and Bäst, recently worked together on this industrial doorway in Brooklyn. A welcome sight in snowy New York for street art fans as the cold season cuts down on the amount of new work this time of year.  You can take a closer look at the salon style installation after the jump but head over to Brooklyn Street Art to get the full set of pics including in progress shots.

Video: Ai Weiwei – “Never Sorry” Documentary

Right on the heels of the behind-the-scenes Sunflower Seeds video, a trailer for Ai Weiwei’s Never Sorry documentary has surfaced. This first full length feature on the Chinese artist and activist sheds light on some of his philosophies & principles and why he is admired by so many fans in and out of China. In anticipation of his upcoming two person exhibition with Remi/Rough, AM brings you a view from the studio of Edinburgh based artist Steve More. Releases: Blu – 2010 DVD

Fans of Blu’s fantastic graff-animations – Muto, Combo (collaboration with David Ellis), and Big Bag Big Boom – now have a way to own some of the footage.  The prolific street artist has released his first ever DVD, signed and numbered with an edition of 100, covering videos he has made during the last 10 years. The price is €30.00 and it is available here.

Preview: “Is This Thing On?” @ Gallery 1988 (Melrose)

For those interested in these sort of shows, Gallery 1988, the Melrose location, has a group exhibition tonight featuring artwork of your favorite comedians. There is a massive list of artists and the funnymen or funnywomen they are paired with but we have a small preview (after the jump) of the show entitled Is This Thing On?

Preview: ‘Haymaker’ group show @ Freight + Volume

New York Gallery Freight + Volume open their 2011 season with a group show this week featuring Kristen Schiele (interviewed) and Eric White (interviewed). Haymaker also features Tatiana Berg, Doug Fishbone and Damian Stamer, with the curatorial theme focusing on commerce within art. Teaser: Ray Caesar – “A Gentle Kind of Cruelty” @ Jonathan LeVine Gallery

Besides his participation in the “In The Nursery” group show, Ray Caesar has some bigger things planned for January – namely his solo at Jonathan Levine Gallery. Unique in the scene as one of the rare artists who find success with utilizing the digital medium, Caesar’s newest body of work will be entitled “A Gentle Kind of Cruelty”. Broad Musuem Design Revealed

The much talked about Broad Museum finally has an architectural design. This honeycombed building with a projected cost of $130 million is the brainchild of Diller, Scofidio + Renfro, a New York-based firm, and will feature 114,000 square feet of space spread over three stories. We will be definitely be looking forward to checking this and Eli Broad’s collection out when it opens in downtown LA. Via La Times.
