Streets: Brendan Monroe x Souther Salazar @ FFTT (Portland)

Last week, Brendan Monroe (interviewed) and Souther Salazar were able to complete their joint mural in Portland for Forest For The Trees (FFTT). The artists were invited to join the not-for-profit the public mural project, which also featured eighteen other local and international artists. Over the course of several days, Salazar painted clusters of his whimsical imagery against Monroe’s Tron-like structured background that hints at trees. Openings: “Language of the Wall: Graffiti / Street Art” @ Pera Museum

The country of Turkey was recently graced by a great exhibition featuring some key graffiti & street artist from around the world. Held at the Pera Museum, the show was entitled Language of the Wall: Graffiti / Street Art and gathered together 20 artists from countries such as America, Germany, France, Japan, Turkey, to give folks in the region a taste of the urban art form from around the globe. Brian Donelly aka KAWS is returning to Los Angeles for his third exhibition at Honor Fraser Gallery opening on the September 13th. For this show, the NYC-based artist produced a series of new drawings, paintings, and sculptures. Out on the Lower East Side of New York, a new mural has taken form after some hard work by Chinese artist DALeast (interviewed). After sharing with you a new mural that Titi Freak painted in Rio de Janeiro for Seido Restaurant a couple of months ago, we now have for you some of his public art for you. Featuring something that appears frequently in his work, Koi fish, the Brazilian artist once again draws from his his Japanese heritage to gift this street in Sao Paulo with his imagery. With the opening of his Los Angeles exhibition scheduled in less than three weeks, KAWS will give the public another high profile look at his imagery with the launch of Pharrell’s fragrance “G I R L” this week. Released by Commes des Garçons online at Dover Street Market on August 28th and in-store in London on September 1st, the signature scent features a design by KAWS and will continue the long standing friendship (collector, curator) between the singer-songwriter and New York-based artist. Although it has only been several days since we first reported on the start of a massive new 3D mural that Os Gemeos are working on for the Vancouver Biennale, twin brothers Gustavo and Otavio Pandolfo have already made huge progress on this project. The wall he painted once again showed his skills with large-scale imagery while working around architectural features of his surface. Pejac (introduced) recently visited Paris and left a several new pieces scattered around the city. We just got these images of the last three pieces he did there, and even though quite different in their concept and style, they are examples of his wittiness and talent. Using just a basic color palette (mostly black and white) with minimal intervention onthe surface he is painting on, the Spanish artist achieves strong pieces both aesthetically and conceptually.
