Videos: Nuart Aberdeen BBC Documentary

Our friends from Nuart Festival recently received another fantastic recognition – the 2nd edition of Nuart Aberdeen festival (covered) organized in collaboration with Aberdeen Inspired, was captured in the Obair Ealain (Street Art) documentary by BBC ALBA. Shot on location during the duration of the 2018 edition of the festival, and narrated in indigenous Gaelic, the 60min feature includes exclusive behind the scenes footage of the 12 participating artists giving meaning to this year’s theme – A Revolution of the Ordinary. It’s been an ongoing mission of Nuart to […]

Openings: Shepard Fairey – ‘Force Majeure’ @ MMOMA (Moscow)

With a career approaching its 30th anniversary, Shepard Fairey (interviewed) has just opened a new exhibition titled Force Majeure at the Moscow Museum of Modern Art (organized with RUArts Foundation, curated by MMOMA and Wunderkammern Gallery with the collaboration of Artmossphere). The exhibition is an historical overview of his career to date, showcasing the evolution of his body of work spanning three decades – from politics, commercial messaging, subversion, social constructs, environment,  to war and peace – but also showcases many of Fairey’s artworks reflecting the profound influence […]

Art Focus: Invader – The Elegant Nexus

Invader’s work is made from conventional, individual tiles whose simplicity and uniformity belies the intangible mass of history, knowledge, and experience with which these mosaics are imbued. The artist’s practice is intimately associated with both graffiti and video games, which have proven to be two of the most dominant and enduring strands of youth culture over the last half-century. Out on the streets, graffiti has had a bigger impact than almost any other art movement in history;1 while indoors, gamers have clocked up billions of plays on […]

Returning for his third go around (see 2012 – part 1 & part 2 – and 2014), ROA will opening a new solo tomorrow night (September 20th) at StolenSpace. Also included are some more abstract creations, with hints of shapes and forms from his familiar visual language. Discuss Todd “REAS” James here.

Streets: Said Dokins & Fintan Magee // Nuart Festival (Stavanger)

We’ve recently written a lot about what was happening in Stavanger during the 18th edition of Nuart Festival, but we wanted to give you a heads up on the background of two of the arguably most impactful projects that took place. Both murals created by artists that came from other parts of the globe, Australian Fintan Magee and Mexican Said Dokins, were the results of collaborations between the festival and local organizations focused on social inclusion. Dokins’ Næarhet (proximity/closeness) mural was directly inspired by the experiences […]

Streets: Nuart 2018 (Part III)

A few days after the official opening of Nuart 2018, we’re bringing you the final view of the new works produced for the 18th edition of the festival. The unprecedented lineup of 26 artists, two times more than their average over the years, included a significant number of stencil artists, a technique that has a special place in the heart and history of Norwegian art. As one of the most common and important mediums in Street Art, stencils have proven to be a strong tool in […]

Streets: OG Slick (POW! WOW! Worcester)

Continuing to work with the POW! WOW! family, OG Slick recently finished a wall for this year’s event in Worcester, Massachusetts. The mural features a motif the Los Angeles-based artist has worked on in the past featuring his familiar Micky Mouse hands spray painting a smiley face. We’ll have more from POW! WOW! Worcester soon, but for now enjoy some more photos of the multi-story piece form Slick. Photo credit: @carlosmare, @smanzo36, @dickchuck77, @1ill510, @lannysphotos, and the artist.
