Tonight, Saturday March 23rd, Shepard Fairey’s Subliminal Projects gallery will debut a new body of work by SF-based photorealist painter Jessica Hess. The two person show, also featuring Tara Smith, is entitled “Planes, Trains & Automobiles” and looks to be a great pairing between Hess’ deceivingly photo-realistic graffiti covered vehicles and Smith’s wonderfully washed out urban abstractions. Little known fact: sometimes between the large scale murals by invited artists, the prominent Bowery & Houston wall also hosts temporary tribute projects in the interim such as the one held for Dash Snow after his passing in 2010 (covered). Streets: Crash Mural on Bowery & Houston (Part II)

Earlier this week, we gave you a behind the scenes look of street artist Crash, a.k.a. John Matos (featured), as he worked the renowned Bowery & Houston wall. With the help of Tats Cru member BIO assisting on the cans, Mr. Matos powered through this fresh composition featuring the iconic cartoon character Popeye. Maybe a possible nod to Jeff Koons? Regardless, it’s impressive to see Crash turn his concept sketch on paper into a large scale reality.

Releasing at 9am Pacific (noon Eastern) time on Tuesday, March 19 by 1xRUN is a limited edition (of 200) print by the highly respected graffiti writer/fine artist REVOK. Titled 1313 Milwaukee and priced at $200, it is a 30″x30″ archival pigment print on hand-deckled, 300gsm water color cotton paper. After a great post-Sandy inspired mural by How & Nosm (covered), it’s time for a new artist to take on the iconic Bowery & Houston wall. Legendary graffiti and fine artist Crash, a.k.a.
