Upcoming: Shepard Fairey – “Sound and Vision” @ StolenSpace

Coming up in October, Shepard Fairey (featured) returns to the StolenSpace Gallery in London for a solo show entitled Sound and Vision. The name of the exhibition is taken from the song of one of his favorite musicians David Bowie and embodies one of the greatest inspirations for Shep’s art – music. Festival Images (Switzerland)

Starting this weekend in Vevey, Switzerland, the Festival Images kicks off with a series of outdoor and indoor projects as well as associated programming. If you remember, the event (held biannually) was anchored by the Unframed project in 2010 from French street photographer JR. This year, he’s back with Shoot, a giant photo booth creating images for his Inside Out endeavor where participants have to lay down to have their portrait shot (see photostream) and then seeing their photo drift down over 42 feet. Streets: Escif (Peru)

Spanish street artist Escif never seems to stop, with each new mural (often times with a political message) documented on his blog street against. This time, the prolific painter headed over to Cerro de Pasco, Perú to work on a new piece pointing out another injustice. He states – “In order to expand the vast open pit from which the deposits of minerals are extracted, each year entire neighbourhoods in the town are demolished and their residents forced to relocate.” Discuss Escif here.

Openings: INSA @ Projet Beaumont (Montreal)

Last week, London-based artist INSA returned to North America to open a new solo show in Canada. For this show, the Yves Laroche Gallery joins forces with LNDMRK in a brand new space in the Parc Extension neighborhood called Projet Beaumont. This exhibition of new works includes spray paintings, concrete works, wall installations and an outdoor mural. For those in Montreal, the exhibition runs through September 21. Last month, we took you onto the streets of Denver as we took a look at some of the pieces Shepard Fairey left in his wake as a show featuring work from him, Evan Hecox, and Jim Houser was held at the Black Book Gallery. Video: When Lucent Met Herakut…

Earlier this year, German graff duo Herakut teamed up with Lucent Dossier (covered) to bring a unique show which was both part live painting, part acrobatic extravaganza. Many fans of both Herakut and Lucent missed out on the performance since it only played twice in front of an audience. As promised, AM visited Futura for a behind the scene’s look at upcoming his monster show in New York City. Presented in the same pop-up location in the meat-packing district at which Andy Valmorbida previously exhibited Retna, this massive body of work entitled Future-Shock is a proper homecoming for the New York graffiti legend. It looks like KAWS is back in Texas for an encore after a successful showing there at the end of last year. If you remember, the Focus:KAWS exhibition was held at the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth in December of 2011. Now, it will be next location to host the COMPANION (PASSING THROUGH) sculpture first seen in Hong Kong, followed up by a showing at The Aldrich, then at in NY at The Standard Hotel, and finally at his museum show in Atlanta. The Los Angeles-based Augustine Kofie (featured) recently headed down to work on a new mural installation at the Amplify Campus in Venice, California.
