Openings: COPE2 – “Transition” @ TT Gallery

A true graf legend, COPE2 recently opened up a show in his home city of New York. The new body of work showing at the TT-Underground Gallery entitled “Transition” was a colorful representation of the “wildstyle” graffiti the writer help popularize starting in the late 70s in South Bronx. We have a big art night tonight in Culver City and one of the trifecta of shows is opening at the Carmichael Gallery. Seminal street art and graf photographer, Martha Cooper (interviewed), will be in town with an exhibition (Martha Cooper : Remix) she curated where artists were asked to reinterpret one of her many famous photographs. Reminiscent of the Zombie Oscar Statues he installed in Runyon Canyon and in the parking lot of the famous Mel’s Drive-In in Hollywood in 2010, D*Face (featured) placed a custom tombstone early this morning at the Charlie Sheen star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Charity: Benefit Art Auction @ TT-Underground

Last Saturday, TT-Underground Gallery in New York City hosted the opening of the “Benefit Art Auction” to display works of art to be put on on eBay (here), with 100% of the proceeds going to the Japan Red Cross and GlobalGiving to aid those effected by the recent tsunami and earthquake in Japan. Take a look at this complex piece from ROA from back in February at Unit44 entitled The Four Horses Of The Apocalypse. We stopped by Culver City today to check out the near complete mural D*Face (featured) is painting on the side of the Corey Helford Gallery, site of his new show, Going Nowhere Fast, opening this Saturday night. As you can see, D is exploring melding his imagery with elements of Lichtenstein’s work, which we also saw in our earlier studio visit.
